Supported Applications

The Omega HH508 and HH509 series are compact, portable digital thermometers designed for temperature measurement using external Type K, J, T, E, or S thermocouples. These handheld meters provide a backlit LCD display with automatic polarity indication and overrange protection (-OL). The instruments follow Reference Temperature/Voltage Tables (N.I.S.T. Monograph 175 Revised to ITS-90) for temperature indication.

Key functional capabilities include:

• Data Hold, Max/Min recording, and Relative measurement modes
• Hi/Lo limit settings with an audible beeper warning
• Clock function and elapsed time tracking (HH509 series)
• Differential thermocouple input capability (T1-T2 on HH509 models only)
• Auto Power Off after 30 minutes of inactivity

Note: These products are not designed for use in, and should not be used for, patient-connected applications. Do not make temperature measurements inside microwave ovens.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports a broad measurement envelope across multiple thermocouple types. The overall range spans from -210°C to 1767°C (-346°F to 1999°F), with specific limits per sensor type:

• K-TYPE: -200°C to 1372°C, -328°F to 1999°F
• J-TYPE: -210°C to 1200°C, -346°F to 1999°F
• T-TYPE: -200°C to 400°C, -328°F to 752°F
• E-TYPE: -220°C to 1000°C, -364°F to 1832°F
• S-TYPE: 0°C to 1767°C, 32°F to 1999°F

Resolution is selectable at 0.1° or 1°. Basic accuracy is stated as ±(0.1% rdg + 1°C) for K-type sensors in the -60°C to 1372°C range, with specific tolerances defined per type and temperature band (e.g., S-TYPE: ±(0.0% rdg + 2°C) on 0°C to 50°C). Accuracy specifications are stated at an ambient of 23°C±5°C <75% RH.

Environmental limits include:

• Ambient Operating Temperature: 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F) with humidity <80% R.H. per manual, or stated at <75% RH for accuracy.
• Storage Temperature: -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F) with humidity <70% R.H.
• Enclosure Rating: NEMA 4X Dustproof, Water/Splash Resistant

The meter updates readings at a rate of one time per second. Input protection is rated for 24V dc or 24V ac rms maximum input voltage on any combination of input pins.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options regarding channel count, communication interfaces, and accessories:

• Housing & Display: Compact dimensions of 192 H x 91 W x 53 mm D (7.6" x 3.6" x 2.2"). Weight is approximately 255 g (9 oz). Features a backlit LCD with a maximum reading of 1999.
• Power: Operates on one included 9V alkaline battery, providing typical life up to 200 hours. Spare batteries are available as Model No. MN1604.
• Connections: Accepts standard subminiature thermocouple connectors (flat blades spaced 7.9mm center-to-center).
• Sensor Options: Models include a free Type K insulated beaded wire thermocouple with subminiature connector and spool caddy (1 per channel). Spare probes are available, including the KTSS-HH: a 150 mm (6") long, 3 mm (¼") diameter stainless steel Type K probe with a retractable cable expanding to 1.2 m (48").
• Calibration: Optional NIST-traceable calibration is available as HH-NIST (no points) or CAL-3-HH (with points).

Key Product Differences

The series consists of three primary model configurations distinguished by channel count and communication features:

• HH508: Single-channel digital thermometer.
• HH509: Dual-channel digital thermometer with T1-T2 differential input capability.
• HH509R: Dual-channel digital thermometer featuring RS232 communication output in addition to the HH509 capabilities.

All models share the same NEMA 4X enclosure, measurement ranges per thermocouple type, and basic accuracy specifications. The primary functional distinction is the ability of the HH509 and HH509R to measure two inputs simultaneously or calculate differential temperature (T1-T2), whereas the HH508 measures a single input.
