Supported Applications
The Omega LCWD Series consists of compact load washers and compression load cells designed to measure bolt compressional forces. Typical applications documented for the series include clamping forces, die loads, bolt stresses, weighing systems, and structural loads.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LCWD series features a full Wheatstone bridge construction with stainless steel housing. Measurement ranges span from 0 to 200 lb up to 0 to 200,000 lb (and metric equivalents of 1 kN to 200 kN). Accuracy is specified as ±0.5% BFSL for capacities ≤10K lb/50 kN and ±0.75% BFSL for capacities >10K lb/50 kN, combining linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability.
Electrical specifications include an excitation voltage of 10 Vdc (15V maximum) with a bridge resistance of 350 Ω minimum for units <50K lb/200 kN and 700 Ω for ≥50K lb/200 kN. Output signals are nominal at 1 mV/V for capacities <500 lb/2kN and 2 mV/V ± 20% for ≥500 lb/2kN.
Temperature performance is defined by a compensated range of 16 to 71°C (60 to 160°F) and an operating temperature range extending from -40 to 127°C (-40 to 260°F). Thermal effects are rated at ±0.01% FSO/°F for both zero and span. The series supports a safe overload of 120% of capacity and an ultimate overload of 200% of capacity.
Configuration Options
The LCWD series is available in standard (LCWD) and metric (LCMWD) model configurations. Each unit includes a set of spherical washers and load buttons to ensure correct loading alignment when used as a washer or compression cell. The electrical connection consists of a 5 ft (1.5 m) PFA insulated, shielded cable.
Key configurable dimensions vary by capacity:
- Bore Sizes: Range from 0.40 in (10 mm) for lower capacities up to 1.51 in (39 mm) for the 200,000 lb model.
- Outer Diameters: Scale from 1.00 in (25 mm) to 3.00 in (77 mm).
- Height (H): Varies between 9.0 mm (0.35 in) and 32 mm (1.25 in) depending on the rated capacity.
The series supports NIST traceable calibration, with units supplied complete with either a 4-point or 5-point NIST-traceable calibration certificate and shunt data. Compatible signal conditioners include the iDRX-ST (digital output with RS485) and iDRN-ST (analog output).
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between standard inch-based models (LCWD-<Capacity>) and metric models (LCMWD-<Capacity>). Standard model capacities include 200, 500, 1K, 2K, 5K, 10K, 20K, 50K, 100K, and 200K lb. Metric models cover ranges from 1KN to 200KN.
Dimensional variations are tied directly to the rated capacity; for example, capacities ≤10K lb share a bore of 10.2 mm (0.40 in) and height of 9.0 mm (0.35 in), while higher capacities such as 200K lb require larger dimensions including a 38.4 mm (1.51 in) bore and 32 mm (1.25 in) height.
Output signal magnitude varies by capacity threshold: units rated below 500 lb/2kN provide a nominal output of 1 mV/V, whereas those at or above this threshold deliver 2 mV/V ± 20%. Bridge resistance also shifts based on the load rating, with lower capacities utilizing 350 Ω and higher capacities (≥50K lb) utilizing 700 Ω.
