Supported Applications

The Omega OM-CP-WIND101A-KIT Series is a complete wind speed recording system designed to accurately measure and record wind speed. Part of the NOMAD® Family, this low-cost solution includes a data logger, weatherproof enclosure, three-cup anemometer, and necessary cabling for immediate deployment.

The series supports applications requiring non-volatile solid state memory storage capable of holding up to 500,000 readings. Data retrieval is performed via USB connection using included software that converts a PC into a real-time strip chart recorder, allowing data export in graphical and tabular formats or as Microsoft Excel® files.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The system measures wind speed across a range of 0 to 100 mph (0 to 45 m/s), with an accuracy of ±2.0 mph from 0 to 10 mph and ±2.5% of reading from >10 to 100 mph. The resolution is specified as 0.085 mph at a 10 second reading interval, with a starting threshold of 1.75 mph.

Performance specifications include:

  • Reading Rate: Configurable from 1 reading every second to 1 every 24 hours.
  • Memory Capacity: 500,000 readings with software-configurable memory wrap at 250,000 readings in multiple start/stop modes.
  • Battery Life: Typical life of 10 years using the included user-replaceable 3.6V lithium battery, dependent upon frequency and duty cycle.
  • Time Accuracy: ±1 minute/month at 20°C (68°F) for stand-alone data logging.

The anemometer operates in environments from -55 to 60°C (-67 to 150°F), while the overall operating environment is rated for -20 to 60°C (-4 to 150°F) and 0 to 100% RH non-condensing. The enclosure carries an IP65 rating.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable sensor connection cable lengths to accommodate diverse installation distances:

  • OM-CP-WIND101A-KIT: Includes a 7.6 m (25') sensor connection cable.
  • OM-CP-WIND101A-KIT-50: Includes a 15 m (50') sensor connection cable.
  • OM-CP-WIND101A-KIT-100: Includes a 30.5 m (100') sensor connection cable.
  • OM-CP-WIND101A-KIT-150: Includes a 46 m (150') sensor connection cable.

All kits include the data recorder, weatherproof enclosure, and the OM-CP-IFC200 package containing Windows software and an 1.8 m (6') USB interface cable. Engineering units are selectable via software in MPH, KPH, M/S, or KNOTS.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between models is the length of the sensor connection cable provided with the three-cup anemometer. The series also supports replacement parts including the OM-CP-BAT105 (Replacement 3.6V lithium battery) and the OM-CP-WATERBOX101A (Replacement weatherproof NEMA 4 (IP65) enclosure for data logger). A maintenance kit, OM-CP-WATERBOX101A-KIT, is available for the replacement enclosure.

Physical dimensions vary by component: the anemometer measures 54 H x 192 mm D (2.1 x 7.5"), the data logger is 74 H x 148 W x 39 mm D (2.9 x 5.8 x 1.5"), and the enclosure is 93 H x 62 W x 24 mm D (3.7 x 2.5 x 0.9"). The total system weight is 513 g (18.1 oz). Housing material is ABS plastic.
