- Series ID EXTT-EX-WIRE
- Use With Sensor Type Thermocouple
Supported Applications
The Omega E Type Thermocouple Duplex Extension Wire series provides extension grade thermocouple wires for Chromel/Alumel (Type KX), Chromel/Constantan (Type EX), and Copper/Alloy#11 (Type RX/SX) thermocouples. These duplex wires are designed to extend the signal from a thermocouple sensor to an instrument or controller while maintaining ANSI color codes specified for each type.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports maximum operating temperatures that vary by insulation material, with values representing the lower limit of either the extension grade wire or the insulation. Neoflon PFA and Neoflon FEP insulated wires are rated to 200°C (392°F). Polyvinyl insulated variants operate up to 105°C (221°F), while Glass Braid insulated options also support a maximum of 200°C (392°F).
Conductor configurations include solid and stranded types. Stranded conductors are available in specific AWG sizes, such as "7 x 24" for certain Polyvinyl-insulated Type KX models.
Temperature Ratings by Insulation
- Glass Braid: Max. Temp° C: 200; Max. Temp° F: 392
- Neoflon PFA: Max. Temp° C: 200; Max. Temp° F: 392
- Polyvinyl: Max. Temp° C: 105; Max. Temp° F: 221
- Neoflon FEP: Max. Temp° C: 200; Max. Temp° F: 392
Configuration Options
The series offers a broad range of configurations across thermocouple types, insulation materials, and conductor sizes to accommodate specific installation requirements.
Thermocouple Types
- Type KX: Extension grade for Chromel/Alumel (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®)
- Type EX: Extension grade for Chromel/Constantan (CHROMEGA®/Constantan)
- Type RX/SX: Extension grade for Copper/Alloy#11
Insulation Materials
- Glass Braid
- Neoflon PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy)
- Polyvinyl
- Neoflon FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene)
American Wire Gauge (AWG) Sizes
The series includes various AWG sizes depending on the insulation and type. Available gauges include 14, 16, 18, 20, and 24 AWG.
- Solid Conductors: Standard for most configurations across all types.
- Stranded Conductors: Available in specific combinations (e.g., "7 x 26" or "7 x 32") primarily with Polyvinyl insulation.
Special Limits of Error (SLE)
To order special limits of error wire, add the suffix “-SLE” to the model number before specifying spool length. This option is available for various Type KX and EX configurations with Neoflon PFA, Polyvinyl, and Neoflon FEP insulation.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between thermocouple types (KX, EX, RX/SX) which dictate the conductor alloy composition. Insulation material selection determines the maximum operating temperature: Glass Braid, PFA, and FEP support higher temperatures up to 200°C (392°F), whereas Polyvinyl is limited to 105°C (221°F).
Model numbers follow a structured format indicating insulation type, AWG size, thermocouple type, and optional features. For example, EXTT-K-16 denotes Neoflon PFA insulated Type KX wire in 16 AWG solid conductor, while EXPP-E-20S indicates Polyvinyl insulated Type EX wire with a stranded configuration.
Nominal dimensions vary by insulation and gauge. For instance, the overall size for Neoflon PFA 16 AWG is listed as "2.2 x 3.9 (0.086 x 0.152)" mm/in, while Polyvinyl 14 AWG measures "3.4 x 7.3 (0.134 x 0.288)" mm/in.
