Supported Applications
The Omega LVRD10 Series Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitters utilize Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) technology for precise continuous level measurement. The series is intended for low corrosive chemical, waste, oil, or water storage applications in above-grade metal or reinforced concrete tanks and below-grade tanks of any material.
Based on probe configuration, the LVRD10 Series supports specific media characteristics:
- Rod and Cable probes: Recommended for viscous, crystallizing, adhesive, coating, or sticky liquids; fibrous liquids, sludge, slurry, pulp; and liquids containing solid particles. These configurations are also recommended when cleanability of the probe is important.
- Coaxial probes: Recommended for non-metallic tanks (plastic, fiberglass) as well as metallic tanks or below-grade concrete basins. Coaxial designs are preferred for measuring low reflectivity liquids with a dielectric constant [er] >1.8.
- All probe types: Suitable for installations in tall and narrow risers, difficult geometries, close to internal objects/obstructions or tank walls, where liquid spray may touch the probe above the surface, or near non-stationary interference targets such as agitator blades.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LVRD10 Series operates with a supply voltage of 10 to 30VDC (reverse-polarity protected) and provides an analog output signal of 4 to 20mA, 3-wire. The device features galvanic insulation and disturbance signal suppression.
- Accuracy: ±3mm under reference conditions (dielectric constant [er] =80, water surface, tank 1m, DN200 metal flange).
- Repeatability & Resolution: Repeatability is <2mm; resolution is <2mm.
- Response Time: 5s with a start-up time of <6s.
- Ambient Temperature (Operation): -13° to 176°F (-25° to 80°C).
- Ambient Temperature (Storage): -40° to 185°F (-40° to 85°C).
- Process Pressure: -14.5 to 250 psi (-1bar to 17.2bar).
- Media Requirements: Dielectric [er] >1.8; no restrictions on conductivity or density.
Process temperature limits vary by probe type: Rod and Cable probes support -40° to 302°F (-40° to 150°C), while Coaxial probes support -40° to 266°F (-40° to 130°C).
Configuration Options
The series is configurable across three primary probe styles—Rod, Cable, and Coaxial—with varying measurement ranges and mounting options.
- Probe Types & Ranges: Rod (LVRD11) and Coaxial (LVRD12) probes are available in standard lengths up to 3.0m (9.84'), with shorter variants at 0.91m (3.0') and 1.82m (6.0'). Cable probes (LVRD13) extend the measurement range to 5.5m (18.0'). Custom probe lengths can be ordered in 5mm increments.
- Process Connections: Standard models feature a ¾" NPT process mount; variants with "G" suffixes utilize a ¾ G connection.
- Housing & Enclosure: The housing is constructed from Aluminum alloy EN AC-AlSi9Cu3 (DIN EN 1706) with an epoxy spray coating (~70μm), rated IP66 and NEMA 4. It includes a single cable entry ½" NPT.
- Wetted Materials: Rod, Cable, and Coaxial probes utilize wetted materials of 1.4404 / 316L SS or PEEK (Cable also lists 1.4404 / 316 SS).
- Configuration & Output Options: The sensor is configured via PC Windows® USB 2.0 software. Signal fail-safe options include 4 to 20mA, 21 mA, or hold last value.
Key Product Differences
The LVRD10 Series distinguishes models by probe geometry and connection type:
- LVRD11 (Rod): Single rod design with a 4mm diameter. Recommended for applications involving sticky, fibrous, or particulate-laden liquids where cleanability is critical.
- LVRD12 (Coaxial): Features a 21.3mm (0.84") probe within a ½" pipe structure. This design is recommended for non-metallic tanks and low dielectric constant liquids, though it is not recommended for sticky or fibrous media.
- LVRD13 (Cable): Utilizes a 4mm type 7x19 cable with an attached weight. Like the rod probe, it supports viscous and slurry applications but offers extended range up to 5.5m (18').
- Mounting Variants: Models ending in "G" (e.g., LVRD11G) indicate a ¾ G process connection instead of the standard ¾ NPT.
