Supported Applications

The Omega TLO and KTLO series consists of over-the-side immersion heaters designed for heating medium weight oils. The product overview identifies specific compatible media including alkali, soaking cleaners, degreasing solutions, caustics, solvent type oils, and heat transfer fluids.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series features tubular heating elements brazed into a junction box with all wetted parts constructed of steel. A standard sludge leg design keeps the heated portion off the tank bottom to prevent sediment accumulation. The heaters operate at a low watt density of 20 W/in², specified for medium weight oil applications.

Power ratings range from 2 kW to 10 kW across two and three-element configurations. Electrical supply options include 120V, 240V, and 480V at both single-phase and three-phase power (indicated by the "3P" suffix). The series carries UL and CSA approvals.

Configuration Options

The TLO-KTLO-SERIES offers configurable dimensions based on riser height, element count, and wattage. Model numbers follow the format TLO-<kW>-<Riser Code>-<Voltage Code> or KTLO-<kW>-<Riser Code>-<Voltage Code>.

Configuration Options:

• Riser Heights (A): Available in 91 cm (36 in) and 121 cm (48 in).
• Element Count: Two-element or three-element assemblies.
• Voltage Designation: Models with an asterisk (*) require the user to designate voltage by inserting "240" for 240V or "480" for 480V into the model number. Three-phase power requires adding the suffix "3P".
• Thermostat Kits: Optional kits fit into the heater terminal box, including AR-115-KIT-4 (0–100°F), AR-219-KIT-4 (60–250°F), and AR-519-KIT-4 (200–550°F).

Minimum tank clearance requirements vary by model, ranging from 35 cm (13¾ in) to 145 cm (56¾ in). Weights range from 9 lb (4 kg) for the smallest units up to 16 lb (7 kg).

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between TLO and KTLO model families, which correspond to different minimum tank clearance dimensions for equivalent power ratings. For example, a 2 kW unit with a 91 cm riser requires 57 cm (22¼ in) of clearance for the TLO-220A configuration versus 35 cm (13¾ in) for the KTLO-220A configuration.

Three-element models are available starting at 3 kW, whereas two-element configurations begin at 2 kW. Higher wattage units such as 9 kW and 10 kW are offered exclusively with three elements and specific riser heights of 121 cm (48 in). A note indicates that TLO-2 and KTLO-2 Series are available in 4 kW units upon contact with OMEGALUX.
