These unique probes address specific measurement challenges where standard sensors may be impractical.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The 88000 Series probes meet Standard Limits of Error. Maximum service and surface temperatures vary by specific model configuration, with documented limits including:

  • 400°C (750°F) max surface temperature
  • 815°C (1500°F) max surface temperature
  • Service temperatures ranging from 205°C (400°F) to 500°C (930°F)

Response times depend on the probe style and air velocity, documented as:

  • 0.5 to 20 seconds depending on air velocity
  • 6 to 20 seconds for specific configurations

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options across sensor types, housing styles, and accessories:

  • Sensor Calibration: Specify Type K (CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™) or Type E (CHROMEGA-Constantan).
  • Housing & Sheath: Features a black plastic housing with wetted parts constructed from 400 series stainless steel. Some models utilize a tapered stainless steel sheath.
  • Dimensions: Probe diameter is listed as 12.5 mm (1/2 in) for specific styles; overall dimensions vary by model and are detailed on pages 3-5 of the source data sheet.
  • Electrical Connection: All models include a molded SMP or SMPW subminiature male connector.

Key Product Differences

The series includes multiple model numbers (e.g., 88001 through 98227) with distinct geometries for surface contact versus insertion. Key distinctions include:

  • Model Numbering: The format follows the pattern 88000 Series - Model Number - Calibration, such as model 88009E (Style 88009 probe in Type E thermocouple).
  • Connector Compatibility: While probes feature SMP or SMPW connectors, TAS adapters are sold separately. Available adaptors include the TAS-K-3 and TAS-E-3.
  • Cable Options: A retractable cable option is available that expands to 1.5 m (5').
  • Maintenance Note: The thermocouple element is not replaceable on all models in the series.
