Supported Applications
The Omega OS-TX-USB-Series consists of fixed infrared (IR) temperature transmitters designed for non-contact surface temperature measurement. The series offers two primary spectral response configurations to address different material emissivities: general-purpose models with an 8 to 14 µm wavelength and short-wavelength models at 2.2 µm.
General-purpose (USB suffix, 8-14 µm) sensors are suitable for high-emissivity materials including paper, thick plastics, food, pharmaceuticals, rubber, asphalt, and painted surfaces. These models support sub-zero measurements applicable to the food, logistics, and storage industries. Short-wavelength (2USB suffix, 2.2 µm) sensors provide accurate readings on low-emissivity reflective metals and high-temperature targets. Additionally, short-wavelength models are capable of measuring through glass viewports.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 70°C; air/water cooled housing options (WC) are available for higher temperatures. The enclosure carries an IP65 rating and functions in relative humidity up to 95% max. non-condensing.
Measurement ranges vary by model configuration:
- -40°C to 1000°C: Available on all models (general-purpose).
- 45°C to 300°C: LT range, available for OS151A-2USB-LT only.
- 250°C to 1000°C: MT range.
- 450°C to 2000°C: HT range.
Accuracy is specified as ± 2°C or 1% of reading, whichever is greater for short-wavelength models (2.2 µm), and ± 1°C or 1% of reading, whichever is greater for general-purpose models (8-14 µm). Repeatability is listed at ± 0.5°C or 0.5% of reading, whichever is greater. The response time is 200 ms.
Electrical Specifications
The transmitters require a power supply of 24 V DC (maximum 28 V DC) with a minimum sensor voltage of 6 V DC. Maximum loop impedance for the analog output is 900 Ω @ 24 V DC.
Configuration Options
The OS-TX-USB-Series provides dual outputs: a linear, 2-wire 4 to 20 mA signal compatible with indicators, controllers, recorders, or data loggers, and USB 2.0 communications using the Modbus protocol (removable cable included). Emissivity is configurable from 0.1 to 1.0.
Configuration options include:
- Spectral Response: General-purpose (8-14 µm) or short-wavelength (2.2 µm).
- Optics: Divergent optics ratios of 15:1, 25:1, 30:1, and 75:1; close-focus optics with focal spot sizes of 5 mm at 100mm distance or 7.5 mm at 500mm distance.
- Temperature Ranges: LT (45°C to 300°C), MT (250°C to 1000°C), HT (450°C to 2000°C), and standard (-40°C to 1000°C).
- Cooling: Standard sensor without cooling or air/water cooled jacket with air purge collar.
- Mounting & Accessories: Fixed mounting bracket, adjustable mounting bracket, laser sighting tool (OSUSB-LST), and extended 4-20 mA output cables up to 30 m maximum length.
The housing is constructed of stainless steel with overall dimensions of Ø 27.6 x length 61 mm including cable glands. The process connection is M20 x 1 mm pitch, length 15 mm. Standard output cable length is 1 m; USB cable length is 1.8 m.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between general-purpose and short-wavelength models via the spectral response code in the model number (USB vs. 2USB). General-purpose models cover -40°C to 1000°C, while short-wavelength models offer selectable ranges from 45°C to 300°C up to 450°C to 2000°C.
Optics codes define the target spot size and distance capabilities: 151A (15:1 divergent), 251A (25:1 divergent), 751A (75:1 divergent), 301A (30:1 divergent), and 801A (close-focus). The LT temperature range is restricted to the OS151A-2USB-LT model. Cooling options are indicated by a blank code for standard sensors or WC for air/water cooled jackets with an air purge collar.
