Supported Applications

The Dwyer Model 480 Vaneometer™ Swing Vane Anemometer is a pocket-sized, lightweight instrument designed to measure low air velocities. It supports compliance with OSHA and EPA safety ventilation requirements in environments such as paint spray booths, fume hoods, and laboratories.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series measures horizontal air flows only. Accuracy is specified as ±5% of full-scale to 100 FPM and ±10% from 100 FPM to the top of scale. The instrument features a pendulum vane/pointer for reading on a large, factory-calibrated scale that is visible from both sides. A built-in bubble level (spirit level) ensures accurate alignment during measurement.

Configuration Options

The Model 480 series offers two primary configurations based on the unit of measure:

  • Model 480: Measures air velocity from 25 to 400 FPM.
  • Model M480: Measures air velocity from 0 to 2.0 m/s.

The housing is constructed of tough ABS plastic, and the instrument weighs four ounces. It includes a polyester vane for measurement. For installation or permanent monitoring, the series supports a versatile steel mounting bracket designed for overhead or wall mounting; bolts, nuts, and screws are included with this option.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between variants is the scale unit: Model 480 displays readings in feet per minute (FPM), while Model M480 displays meters per second (m/s). Both models share identical physical construction, accuracy specifications relative to their respective scales, and accessory compatibility. Replacement vanes are available as Part No. A-390 (package of two).
