Supported Applications

The Omega Individually Available Thin Film Platinum RTD Elements series comprises bare sensing elements designed for integration into custom housings or package styles. These Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) sensors utilize platinum thin film technology to measure temperature in industrial and laboratory processes requiring precise resistance-based detection.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports two distinct element families with specific performance envelopes:

  • Series F: Small, flat elements conforming to IEC60751 standards. The maximum operating range is -50 to 500°C (-58 to 932°F), though DIN Class "A" tolerance applies specifically between -30 to 300°C (-22 to 572°F). One variant (F3105-A) supports a max range of -200 to 600°C with Class A accuracy from -30 to 300°C.
  • Series W: Rugged, cylindrical ceramic elements conforming to IEC751 standards. These operate across a temperature range of -50 to 600°C (-58 to 1112°F) and meet Class B requirements with a tolerance of ±0.12% at 0°C.

Accuracy specifications for Series F include ±0.30 Ω at 0°C for the 500 Ω element and ±0.60 Ω at 0°C for the 1000 Ω element. All elements feature an Alpha coefficient of 0.00385.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable dimensions, resistances, and lead configurations to accommodate diverse assembly requirements:

  • Nominal Resistance at 0°C: Series F is available in 100 Ω, 500 Ω, and 1000 Ω. Series W supports 100 Ω, 200 Ω, 400 Ω, 500 Ω, 1000 Ω, and 2000 Ω.
  • Physical Dimensions: Series F elements feature a diameter of ø0.25 ±0.02 mm with lead wire diameters of 0.2 mm (Series F) or 0.38 mm (Series W). Overall lengths are approximately 10 mm for Series F and 15 mm for standard Series W models; however, length is 17 mm for 1000 Ω and 2000 Ω elements in the Series W family.
  • Lead Configuration: Elements are offered with single or dual lead configurations. Lead wires measure 10 mm for Series F and 15 mm for Series W, available with PFA insulated lead wire options.
  • Materials: Wetted materials include platinum (thin film) sensing elements. Series W bodies utilize ceramic construction with gold-palladium leads.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between two primary form factors and accuracy classes based on the model prefix:

  • Series F (OMEGAFILM™): Flat, thin film elements designed for compact installations. Most models provide DIN Class "A" performance within their specified sub-range; however, specific configurations such as the 1000 Ω dual-lead variant (F3142) are designated as Class B only.
  • Series W: Cylindrical ceramic elements designed for rugged applications. These models consistently meet DIN Class "B" requirements across their full temperature range of -50 to 600°C (-58 to 1112°F).

Pricing and availability are dependent on lead style, and the elements can be packaged into an unlimited number of housings.
