Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series HBAV is an electrical ball valve designed for flow control in hot and cold water HVAC systems. The product overview identifies typical use cases including air conditioning systems, heating systems, water treatment facilities, and production industries.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within specific ambient and process temperature limits while maintaining defined pressure ratings across its size range.

  • Ambient Temperature: -22 to 158°F (-30 to 70°C)
  • Process Temperature: 23 to 122°F (-5 to 50°C)
  • Pressure Limits: Max: 375 psi (25 bar); Close off: 87 psi (6 bar)
  • Cycle Time (per 90°): Sizes 1/2 to 1": 45 sec.; sizes 1-1/4 to 2": 50 sec.
  • Enclosure Rating: NEMA 1 (IP10)

The valve body is a 2-way, normally closed (NC) design with wetted materials consisting of Brass, SS, NBR, and PTFE. The series supports compatible fluids as the designated service media.

Configuration Options

The Series HBAV offers configurable options for line size, supply voltage, input type, and actuator function to accommodate specific installation requirements.

  • Line Size: 1/2" to 2" NPT with Female NPT end connections
  • Supply Voltage: 120 VAC or 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz, single phase
  • Input Types:
    • Floating: 3-wire input
    • Modulating: 4 to 20 mA (requires 24 VAC power only)
  • Housing Material: Plastic, nylon, and polyoxymethylene
  • Electrical Connection: 18 AWG

The actuator is electrically driven via a bidirectional AC motor. Features include a detachable actuator with position switches and an indicator.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the series are distinguished by size, voltage rating, and input configuration (Floating vs. Modulating). The model number guide follows the format HBAV<Size><Voltage><Input Type>.

  • Floating Actuators: Available in 120 VAC or 24 VAC configurations for sizes 1/2" through 2".
  • Modulating Actuators: Restricted to 24 VAC power supply. The model selection table lists modulating options (e.g., HBAV0224, HBAV0324) specifically for sizes 1/2", 3/4", and 1".

Physical dimensions vary by size; for example, the overall length (Dimension C) ranges from 4.53 [115] mm for 1/2" to 5.31 [135] mm for 2" sizes. Modulating models in sizes 1/2" through 1" include an electric cord attached on the outside, while modulating models in sizes 1-1/4" through 2" contain a 4-wire terminal block.
