Supported Applications
The Omega CRB Series Curved Face Ceramic Radiant Heaters (Ceramic E-Mitters) are designed for radiant heating applications requiring a universal mount for easy integration into existing systems. These heaters accommodate new or existing installations where performance must remain unaffected by vibration or adverse atmospheric conditions.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CRB Series operates with an infrared radiation wavelength of 2.5 to 6 µm and offers a long operating life of over 10,000 hours under normal continuous operation conditions. Heater body temperature is measured with an internal thermocouple when mounted facedown in stock CRK reflector and operating in 22°C (72°F) room ambient.
Performance specifications vary by wattage density:
- Watt Density Range: From 4.32 Watts/in² at 100 W to 43.18 Watts/in² at 1,000 W.
- Heater Body Temperature Rise: Ranges from a 357°F rise (resulting in 429°F body temp) at 100 W up to a 1,348°F rise (resulting in 1,420°F body temp) at 1,000 W.
- Primary Emitted Wavelength: Shifts from 5.87 µm at lower wattages down to 2.78 µm at the maximum rated output of 1,000 Watts.
The series supports standard stocked voltages of 120 or 220/240V as noted in specific model configurations; other voltages are available upon request.
Electrical and Safety Constraints
- Hazard Warning: These heaters are not for use in atmospheres where flammable vapors, gases or liquids are present as defined in the National Electrical Code. Where solvents or water are being evaporated from the process, substantial quantities of ventilating air must be provided to carry away resulting vapors.
- Grounding: Installation must be grounded to earth to avoid shock hazard; disconnect power before servicing or installing.
- Wiring Material: Do not use Copper Wire for connections inside the heater due to oxidation at high temperatures. Use nickel plated or nickel clad insulated copper wire with insulation suitable for the ambient temperature of the wiring installation.
Configuration Options
The CRB Series is available in five standard solid curved face sizes (CRL, CRB, CRM, CRC, CRS) to accommodate a wide range of applications. The specific CRB models listed feature the following configurable options:
- Colors: Standard colors include metamorphing rose (cold) to grey (hot) and traditional white. Optional colors are available including metamorphing yellow (cold) to orange (hot) and black.
- Sensor Integration: Heaters are available with built-in Type K thermocouple, with Type J thermocouple and low noise options also available for specific wattage/voltage combinations.
- Housing Assembly: Standard housing lengths (CRK series) range from 5 inches to 70 inches. These housings do not include reflectors or terminal blocks but support configurations of CRB, CRC, and other E-Mitters up to a maximum power rating defined by the specific housing length.
- Reflectors: Reflectors for Ceramic E-Mitters are designed to withstand bending and heat distortion. They are made from highly polished chrome steel or optional aluminized steel and include standoffs and hardware for easy installation into CRA Linear Structural Housing Assemblies (except CRK00032).
- Terminal Blocks: Model number EHD-108-101 terminal blocks are required for wiring each heater. These support a maximum voltage of 600 Vac, maximum current of 20 Amps, and maximum temperature of 450°C (842°F) with AWG 20 to 12 ga wire.
Mounting and Connections
The heaters feature a lightweight extruded aluminum housing with 5/16-18 mounting bolts. Leads can be connected in series or parallel using standard ceramic bead insulated leads, #8-10 spade terminals, and a one-piece spring clip for mounting.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the CRB Series are distinguished by wattage rating (ranging from 150 W to 1,000 W), voltage configuration (120V, 220/240V, or 480V for specific models), and color finish. Model numbers indicate the presence of a thermocouple; standard Type K thermocouples are available on select wattage/voltage combinations such as 650 W at 230 V (Type K) and 1,000 W at 480 V (Type J or K).
Custom engineered/manufactured heaters can be produced to meet requirements for sizes and ratings not listed in the standard catalog.
