Supported Applications

The Series BTLRN Long Reach Bimetal Thermometer is designed to measure process and ambient temperatures in locations that shorter dial thermometers cannot access. Its extended stem lets the sensing element reach deep into tanks, ducts, hoppers, and piping where the point of measurement sits well below the mounting surface.

The instrument suits both permanent installations, using its 1/2" NPT process connection, and temporary spot checks. For temporary use, an optional gripping handle allows the operator to comfortably hold the thermometer in place while a reading is taken. The 3" dial provides a clear local indication without the need for power or wiring.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series BTLRN indicates temperature across a measurement range of 0 to 200°F with an accuracy of ±1% and a dial resolution of 2°F (1°C). The bimetal movement responds mechanically to temperature change, requiring no external power.

Ambient temperature limits span -40 to 392°F (-40 to 200°C), allowing the thermometer to remain in service across a wide band of surrounding conditions. The wetted parts are constructed of 304 SS, the housing is Series 300 SS, and the lens is glass, giving the instrument corrosion resistance suitable for demanding process environments. Each unit weighs 1.0 lb (0.45 kg).

Configuration Options

The models in the series share the same 3" dial, 1/2" NPT connection, accuracy, and materials; they differ principally in stem length and scale configuration.

Stem length ranges from 12" to 72", letting the user select the reach needed for a given vessel or duct depth. Longer stems place the sensing tip farther from the mounting point for hard-to-reach measurement locations.

Scale configuration is selectable between single-scale and dual-scale indication. A dual scale unit is ordered by changing the last digit of the model number to D, for example BTLRN31210D.

Each stem length is also available as a dual-scale unit by changing the final digit to D, for example BTLRN31810D, BTLRN32410D, and BTLRN37210D.

An optional accessory, the BTLR-GH gripping handle, is available for comfortable handling during temporary installations.
