Supported Applications

The Omega LC703 and LCM703 series comprises miniature, low-profile tension link load cells designed for universal tension and compression measurement. The product overview identifies these rugged sensors as suitable for robotics, automated weighing systems, and batch-process control systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LC703/LCM703 series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 82°C (-40 to 180°F), with a compensated temperature range of 16 to 71°C (60 to 160°F). The sensors feature an IP54 protection class and are supplied with a 3.6 m (12') shielded 4-conductor PVC cable.

Performance specifications vary by capacity:

  • Linearity & Hysteresis: ±0.15% for ranges of 10 to 100 lb and 5 to 50 kgf; ±0.10 FSO for ranges above 100 lb and 75 to 500 kgf.
  • Repeatability: ±0.05% across the series.
  • Zero Balance: ±1.0% FSO.
  • Safe Overload: 150% of capacity; Ultimate Overload: 300% of capacity.

The series supports excitation voltages up to 10 Vdc (15V max) with a nominal output signal of 2 mV/V. Output resistance is specified as 350 ±10 Ω, and input resistance is 360 Ω minimum.

Configuration Options

The series offers standard inch-based models (LC703) and metric models (LCM703), covering measurement ranges from 10 lb to 1000 lb and 5 kgf to 500 kgf. Construction materials depend on the capacity: aluminum is used for capacities ≤100 lb or ≤50 kg, while 17-4 PH stainless steel is used for capacities >100 lb or >50 kg.

Physical dimensions scale with capacity:

  • Height (H): 19 mm (0.75 in) for lower ranges; 25 mm (1.0 in) for higher ranges.
  • Length (L MAX): Ranges from 38 mm (1.50 in) to 44 mm (1.75 in).
  • Width (W): Varies between 14 mm (0.54 in), 17 mm (0.66 in), and 24 mm (0.93 in).

Threaded connections are provided for mounting, with options including:

  • Inch Threads: 10-32 x 0.20, ¼-28 x 0.23, and ⅜-24 x 0.38.
  • Metric Threads: M5 x 0.8-6H, M6 x 1.00-6H, and M10 x 1.5-6H.

The series is compatible with specific rod ends (REC-010M, REC-014M, REC-038M for inch; MREC-M5M, MREC-M6M, MREC-M10M for metric) and meters including the DPIS, DP41-S, and DP25B-S.

Key Product Differences

The LC703 series distinguishes between standard inch models (LC703-) and metric models (LCM703-). The model number guide indicates capacities such as 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 300, 500, 750, and 1K for the LC703 line. The LCM703 metric line includes capacities of 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 250, and 500 kgf.

Dimensional differences correlate with capacity tiers. The smallest units (10 lb / 5 kgf) feature a maximum length of 38 mm (1.50 in), while the largest capacities (up to 1K lb or 500 kgf) extend to 44 mm (1.75 in). Thread sizes increase with capacity, transitioning from M5/10-32 for entry-level models to M10/⅜-24 for high-capacity stainless steel variants.

How should these load cells be mounted? Is it alright to tighten bolts down into the tapped holes on either side? Is it alright to tighten a nut down onto the top and bottom surfaces? Or must the load only be applied to the threads?

Asked by: Andy8
The load is measured through the threads. If you are using the load cell in compression and are installing something like a load button into the active side threads you would want to leave a slight gap between the bottom of the load button and the surface of the load cell to allow for the deflection of the cell when loaded. Typical deflection would be 0.003"

For the model LCM703-50, what is the unit for the reading after connecting it to the CN16PT controller. Is it in lbs, kg... And for Platinum Monitor, what is the meaning of values and % in the graphing option when connected to LCM703-50

Asked by: Jacky7
The LCM703-50 is a +/- 50 Kilogram load cell. The CN16PT has a scalable display that you can scale to whatever units of measure you wish within the constraints of 4 Digit display (-9999 to +9999 counts). It also has a movable decimal point if you require your display reading to be in 0.1, 0.01 or 0.001 resolution

The data sheet states that the load cell is calibrated in tension. Is there a way to get it calibrated for compressive use?

Asked by: PhD Student
Hello,I am sorry, we are unable to calibrate this load cell in compression. You may however use this load cell in compression. If you need more assistance kindly email us at pressure@dwyeromega.com

Are these load cell units calibrated/certified for a certain period of time? Is there a calibration process that can be performed when the calibration/certification expires?

Asked by: KyleH
Thank you for you question? The parts are stored in a controlled environment and would be nominally certified a year from installation. The calibration can not be done in the field for these units. Would need to be returned to Omega for re calibration

I have a customer who purchased the LC703-100 load cell and the standard cable length is 12'. Is 12' feet the maximum recommended length or can they extend the cable? If yes, what is the maximum length you recommend?

Asked by: Engineer RL
Thank you for the inquire You can extend the cable. You will need to re calibrate after the extension . There is no reamended extension length. Rule of thumb is 2 x max so that's 24 feet.

Do you need an amplifier for a LC-703-150? If so, part #? Thank you

Asked by: EW27
Hello, if you can work with a mV signal you don't need an amplifier. If you need amplified signal such as volts or mA you could consider the DMD4059

On the LC703, which side is the active side? How is it different from the other side?

Asked by: Andy8
The active side of load cell one that is farther away from screws on the side of the load cell. The threads on that side react with the internal strain gage element
