Supported Applications
The Omega ICSS-PFA series consists of PFA coated thermocouple probes designed for measuring temperature in caustic or corrosive chemical solutions within industrial and laboratory environments. The chemically inert, electrically insulated coating provides protection against severe media compatibility challenges.
Documented applications include exposure to:
- Sulfuric acid
- Hydrochloric acid
- Nitric acid
- Chromic acid
- Caustic compounds
- Battery Electrolyte
- Plating Baths
- Anodizing Baths
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is rated for a measurement range of -200°C to 205°C (-328°F to 400°F), with an operating process temperature up to 205°C (400°F). Accuracy meets or exceeds Special Limit of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2; Tolerance Class 1. The probes feature a grounded junction configuration.
Standard probe dimensions include diameters of 1.5 mm (1/16") or 3.0 mm (1/8"). A typical PFA coating thickness is 0.010 inches, applied over the stainless steel sheath prior to final assembly. The standard overall length for many configurations is 300 mm (12"), though other lengths are available.
Configuration Options
The ICSS-PFA series offers configurable options across calibration types, probe diameters, and insertion lengths. Probes feature Standard Size Connectors in a Quick-Disconnect Style; mating female connectors, cable clamps, and locking clamps are sold separately.
Calibration Types
- Type J (Iron-Constantan)
- Type K (CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®)
- Type T (Copper-Constantan)
- Type E (CHROMEGA®-Constantan)
Dimensions and Configurations
- Diameter: 1.5 mm (1/16"), 3.0 mm (1/8"), or 6.0 mm (1/4") as listed in the To Order table.
- Lengths: Standard lengths include 300 mm (12"); other insertion and overall lengths are available upon consultation with Sales.
- Junction Type: Grounded junction is standard for this series.
Options and Accessories
- HDX probe handle (not included; sold separately).
- PFA coating on most thermocouple probes available upon request.
- Pre-bending of PFA coated probes prior to shipping is an option. Probes ordered from the standard page are shipped straight unless specified otherwise.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series differ by calibration type, sheath diameter, and insertion length as indicated in model numbers such as CASS-18G-12-PFA or ICSS-14G-6-PFA. The "To Order" table lists specific combinations of Iron-Constantan (Type J), CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA® (Type K), Copper-Constantan (Type T), and CHROMEGA®-Constantan (Type E) with diameters ranging from 1.5 mm to 6.0 mm.
Model number prefixes indicate the calibration type: ICSS for Type J, CASS for Type K, CPSS for Type T, and CXSS for Type E. Suffixes denote diameter and length codes (e.g., -12-PFA indicates a specific length with PFA coating). Some variants include dual-sensor configurations or metric-specific lengths not fully enumerated in the standard table but available through Sales consultation.

Great probe for safety!
Does a great job of keeping user's hands away from hazardous chemistries being measured. Nice to have a few choices of lengths.
Nice quick connector.... no special connector to have to build.

Is this resistant to a mixture of hydrofluoric, nitric, and hydrogen peroxide?
The PFA coating is considered to have excellent resistance to the chemicals listed and many others as well.

What is PFA insulation"
Thank you for your inquiry JimBC. PFA is a type of Teflon coating that allows you to measure the temperature of sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric and chromic acids, as well as caustic compounds.
