Supported Applications

The ACI Platinum Room Series consists of temperature sensors designed for indoor environmental monitoring and control. These units are engineered to measure ambient air temperature in spaces where the sensor is mounted on a wall or junction box, providing signals compatible with building management systems.

Sensors feature a four-way airflow design intended to minimize self-heating effects on the measurement element. The series supports configurations for basic sensing as well as advanced control functions including setpoint adjustment and override capabilities via analog outputs.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 1.5 °C to 50 °C (35 °F to 122 °F). Storage conditions are rated from -40 °C to 65 °C (-40 °F to 149 °F) for non-LCD units and -10 °C to 65 °C (14 °F to 149 °F) for LCD Display models. Operating humidity is specified as 10 % to 95 % RH, non-condensing.

Performance specifications vary by sensor element type:

  • Platinum RTD (Class A): Accuracy of ± 0.06 °C at 0 °C (32 °F), with a tolerance formula of +/- °C = (0.15 °C + (0.002 * |t|)). Specific points include ± 0.15 °C (± 0.27 °F) @ 0 °C (32 °F) and ± 0.25 °C (± 0.45 °F) @ 50 °C (122 °F).
  • Response Time: 8 seconds nominal for a 63 % step change.

The LCD Display, when equipped, offers an accuracy of +/- 2°F or +/- 2°C @ 71°F (21.5°C) Typical and has a minimum life expectancy of 50000 Hours.

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across multiple dimensions to meet specific installation requirements:

  • Sensor Elements: Available in Platinum RTD configurations including A/100 (100 Ω nominal) and A/1K (1 kΩ nominal). Other sensor technologies such as thermistors, BALCO, Nickel, and 592 series are documented within the family manuals but may require specific model selection.
  • Wire Configuration: Offered in 2-wire or 3-wire arrangements for Platinum RTD models (e.g., A/100-2W-R, A/1K-3W-R).
  • Housing Styles: Two enclosure options are provided: "R" Enclosure (ABS Plastic, Beige, UL94-HB) and "R2" Enclosure (ABS Plastic, White, UL94-HB). Dimensions for both versions are 69.85 mm (2.75 in) width by 114.30 mm (4.50 in) height with a depth of 28.55 mm (1.12 in).
  • Outputs & Functions: Models support temperature sensor signals, setpoint outputs, and override signals to controller analog inputs. Override options include a default Short Thermistor or a field-selectable "Dry Contact" closure via jumper.
  • Communication Jacks: Optional modular connectors are available including RJ4 (4 Pin 4 Conductor), RJ6 (6 Pin 6 Conductor), and 232 (3.5 mm Stereo Jack).
  • LCD Display: An optional LCD module is available for the "R" style enclosure only, powered by +9 to 35 VDC / 24 VAC (50/60 Hz). The display descriptor can be configured as °F or °C.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between standard sensing units and those with added control features. Models designated "R" or "R2" provide basic temperature monitoring, while suffixes such as "S", "O", and "SO" indicate the inclusion of Setpoint, Override, or both functions respectively.

Key distinctions include:

  • LCD Compatibility: The LCD Display option is exclusive to the Beige "R" style enclosure. It utilizes two temperature sensors for ambient monitoring and factory calibration at a single point. Note that LCD units are not CE Compliant, though they meet RoHS2 standards.
  • NIST Certification: A NIST Certificate (3-Points) is available but only in "R" and "R2" configurations without the LCD Display option.
  • Setpoint Configuration: Units with setpoints include slidepot options for direct or reverse acting resistance ranges (e.g., 0 Ω to 10 kΩ, 806 Ω to 1206 Ω) and indication labels such as "COOL/WARM" or specific temperature bands like 18 °C to 28 °C.
  • Power Supply: Standard sensor models do not require an external power supply for the sensing element, whereas LCD Display units require +9 to 35 VDC / 24 VAC (50/60 Hz).
