Supported Applications
The Omega PSW-800 Series consists of rugged, economical mechanical pressure switches designed for industrial environments. The series covers vacuum applications and gage pressures up to 7500 psig. Models feature high overpressure protection, enabling sensitive switching at low pressures while surviving in high-pressure service.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PSW-800 Series offers distinct performance characteristics based on the internal sensing element design:
- Repeatability: Diaphragm models (PSW-801 to PSW-807) provide ±1% of span; Piston models (PSW-808 to PSW-811) provide ±1.5% of span.
- Process Temperature: -20 to 75°C (-4 to 167°F) for vacuum range; -30 to 75°C (-22 to 167°F) for 500 psi and below; -40 to 75°C (-40 to 167°F) for 600 psi and above.
- Proof Pressure: Ranges from 30 psi (PSW-801) up to 12,000 psi (PSW-811), depending on the model. Burst pressure is rated at 2x proof pressure.
The series includes a vacuum model and ten gage pressure models with specific setting ranges:
- Vacuum Model (PSW-801): Decreasing range 1 to 28 inHg; Increasing range 4 to 30 inHg.
- Gage Pressure Models (PSW-802 to PSW-811): Ranges span from a minimum of 2.5 psig up to a maximum setting of 7500 psig, with specific deadband ranges defined per model in the selection table.
Configuration Options
The series is configured through eleven distinct models (PSW-801 through PSW-811), each covering a specific pressure setting range and proof pressure limit. Key configurable attributes include:
- Process Connection: ¼ NPT male pressure port.
- Electrical Termination: Open-type plastic housing with 300 mm (12") free leads terminated in a ½" female conduit fitting. Leads are color-coded for identification: Purple (Common), Blue/Red (Normally Closed/Normally Open depending on vacuum or pressure model).
- Wetted Materials: Models rated 500 psi and below utilize Brass, Buna-N; models rated 600 psi and above incorporate Stainless Steel in addition to Brass and Buna-N.
- Housing Dimensions: Overall length of 121 mm (4.76 in) with a diameter of 38 mm (1.5 in).
Key Product Differences
Variation within the PSW-800 Series is defined by model number, which dictates the pressure setting range and internal sensing mechanism:
- Sensing Element Design: Models PSW-801 through PSW-807 utilize a diaphragm design. Models PSW-808 through PSW-811 employ a piston design.
- Pressure Range and Deadband: Each model corresponds to a specific pressure setting range (decreasing/increasing) and deadband value as listed in the "To Order" table. For example, PSW-802 covers 2.5 to 12.8 psig with a .5 to 2.2 psi deadband, while PSW-811 covers 3650 to 6700 psig (decreasing) and 4000 to 7500 psig (increasing).
- Lead Color Coding: Wiring color assignments differ between vacuum models and pressure models. For PSW-801, the Normally Closed lead is Blue; for Pressure Models (PSW-802–PSW-811), the Normally Closed lead is Red.

Is the PSW-800 series pressure switch compatible with sea water?
The wetted parts in the PSW-800 Series switches include Buna-N and Brass. Buna-N has excellent compatibility with seawater. Brass however has a very poor rating. We cannot recommend using the PSW-800 in a seawater application.

Can these be used with 125 VDC? Are they compatible with diesel fuel?
The PSW-800 Series pressure switches cannot be used with 125 VDC. Maximum rating for DC Voltage use is 3A max @ 28VDC. The wetted parts would be compatible with diesel oil.

What is the thread size? I am looking to purchase the appropriate tap to thread this pressure switch into a schedule 40 pipe. Usually it’s pre threaded but this one was not.
The process connection thread on all ranges of the PSW-800 Series pressure switches is a 1/4-18 NPT male thread

Do the pressure and vacuum switches have an IP rating?
Although the PSW-800 are sealed very well they do not have an actual IP or NEMA environmental rating.

Are these switches compatible with DOT 3 brake fluid?
No they are not. The Buna-N material in the switches wetted parts will be attacked by the brake fluid
