Supported Applications
The Omega iProx™ series consists of inductive proximity sensors designed for the reliable detection of metal targets. The product overview identifies typical applications including automotive, machine tool, material handling, and metalworking environments.
Operating Conditions & Performance
iProx™ sensors operate within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 70°C (-40 to 158°F). The series offers high performance with repeat accuracy specified as <1% rated sensing distance for shielded models and <3% sensing distance for unshielded models. Switching hysteresis is maintained at <15% of the rated sensing distance.
Enclosure ratings are NEMA 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 12 and 13 (IP67). Mechanical robustness includes a vibration rating of 10 to 55 Hz, 1 mm Amplitude per IEC 60068-2-6, and shock resistance of 30g for 11 mS per IEC 68-2-27. The sensors feature auto-reset protection.
Response time varies by mode and diameter:
- Factory Default Mode (Shielded): 580 Hz (10 V/m) for 12 mm, 390 Hz (10 V/m) for 18 mm, 240 Hz (10 V/m) for 30 mm.
- Factory Default Mode (Unshielded): 300 Hz (10 V/m) for 12 mm, 150 Hz (10 V/m) for 18 mm, 145 Hz (10 V/m) for 30 mm.
- Side by Side: 50 Hz (20 V/m).
- High Noise Immunity Mode: 10 Hz (>20 V/m).
The series demonstrates resistance to high electrical noise up to 20 V/m.
Voltage and Current Specifications (3-Wire Sensors)
- Input Voltage: 6 to 48 Vdc.
- Load Current: ≤500 mA @ 6 to 30 Vdc; ≤300 mA @ 32 to 48 Vdc.
- Leakage Current: ≤150 μA.
- Voltage Drop: ≤2.5 Vdc.
Configuration Options
The iProx™ series is available in 12 mm, 18 mm, and 30 mm diameters with sensing ranges tailored to the specific model configuration:
- 12 mm models: Sensing range from 4 mm (0.15 in) to 10 mm (0.4 in).
- 18 mm models: Sensing range from 8 mm (0.3 in) to 18 mm (0.7 in).
- 30 mm models: Sensing range from 15 mm (0.6 in) to 29 mm (1.1 in).
Sensors are offered with AC 2-Wire or DC 3-Wire output signals.
- AC 2-Wire: Operates on 20 to 132 Vac, 50/60 Hz. Burden current is ≤15 mA.
- DC 3-Wire: Operates on 6 to 48 Vdc with auto-configuration technology for sinking (NPN) or sourcing (PNP) connections.
Housing construction utilizes a 303 SS stainless steel barrel, Polycarbonate end bells, and Ryton® impact-resistant face caps. Electrical connection is provided via cable using AWM Style 20387 PVC insulation with lengths of 2 m (6 ft) for the listed variants.
A 360° viewable dual-color LED indicator provides output status visibility. Accessories include mounting brackets: E57KM12 and E57KM18 for tubular sensors, E58KAM18B adjustable ball swivel bracket for 18 mm sensors, and E57KM30 for 30 mm sensors.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the iProx™ series are distinguished by diameter (12 mm, 18 mm, or 30 mm), shielding type (Shielded vs. Unshielded), and output configuration (AC 2-Wire vs. DC 3-Wire). Shielding affects both physical dimensions and performance metrics; for example, unshielded models exhibit different response times compared to shielded counterparts of the same diameter.
Model numbers follow a structured format indicating these parameters, such as E59-M12A105C02-A1 (AC 2-Wire) or E59-M12A105C02-D1 (DC 3-Wire). The series supports both shielded and unshielded configurations across all three diameters.

Great proximity sensor, works exactly as described
I bought this a month ago and installed on a light fairway mower to turn reels on when cutting units are dropped. The iprox I purchased had upto 1" range. It's actually got about 1 1/8" range. No problems working in a high vibration, wet environment.
