Supported Applications

The Weiss 3" Dial Vari-Angle® Bimetal Thermometer (Series 3VBM) is a stainless steel, hermetically sealed instrument designed for industrial process applications. The series features an adjustable Vari-Angle® connection to accommodate various installation orientations.

According to manufacturer guidance, these thermometers should always be installed in a thermowell when used in pressurized applications. This configuration protects the stem from erosion and corrosion while allowing removal of the thermometer without disturbing the process.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The 3VBM Series measures temperature across ranges spanning -80°F (-40°C) through 1000°F (537°C). Specific standard range codes include:

  • -80/120°F & -60/50°C
  • 0/200°F & -15/90°C
  • 50/400°F & 10/200°C
  • 100/800°F & 40/425°C

The series meets ASME B40.200 (B40.3 Grade A) accuracy class, providing ±1.0% of full range accuracy. Ambient operating temperature is rated from -40 to 250°F (-40-120°C). Response time is maximized by silicone dampening within the bimetallic element.

Service limitations apply for high-range models: Code 800* and 1000† are satisfactory for continuous service up to 800°F, with intermittent service capability up to 1000°F. The process connection is constructed of 300 series stainless steel with a 1/2 NPT thread.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable stem lengths and case options to suit specific installation requirements.

Stem Lengths & Ordering Codes

  • Standard lengths up to 12" (including thread)
  • Model codes: 3VBM25 (2.5" Stem), 3VBM4 (4" Stem), 3VBM6 (6" Stem), 3VBM9 (9" Stem), and 3VBM12 (12" Stem).

Note: For ranges marked with an asterisk (*), the minimum stem length is 4".

Key Product Differences

Variants within the 3VBM Series are distinguished by stem length, range code, and case dampening. The standard model designation follows the format: 3VBM - <Stem Length Code> - <Range Code>. Models with a silicone liquid filled case utilize an "SF" prefix (e.g., SF3VBM25-120). Range codes determine both the measurement span and dial graduation intervals, which vary from 1 to 10 units depending on the selected range.
