Thank you for your inquiry Moe1. The size of the cross section of 5TC-TT-J-40-36 is 0.4 x 0.7 mm (0.017" x 0.026"). You cannot use 5TC-TT-J-40-36 at temperatures up to 500 °C since it is only rated for temperatures up to 260 C and will start to melt if used in temperatures over 260 C.

The maximum temperature that the wire insulation can withstand is 260C

The bead is nominally 2.5x the diameter of the wire so 30 AWG being .010" the bead is 0.025". It is not considered an immersion probe but for short durations it can be used.
