Does this data logger use it's own voltage to operate the strain gauges? If not is a separate system required to power the gauges, and if so what would you recommend? Thanks in advance
Hello Nick
The Bridge101a provides a reference voltage of 2.5V for strain gauges.

this data logger still needs a bridge to attach to the strain gauge?
Hello George
It is recommended to have a full bridge setup (350 or 1000 ohm) connected to the logger.

Does the data logger need to be plugged into a computer with the USB cable for the first time using it to turn it on, rather than using the start/stop button? I tried holding the button for 5+ seconds and the green LED light does not turn on.
Hello, thank you for your question. Yes, you would need to connect to the computer for initial setup before logging for the first time. There are different ways you can start the logger including "immediate" or "delay" start. If you want to use the button to start the logger then you would select "manual" start during setup.
