Supported Applications
The Omega ON-405, ON-406, ON-905, and ON-906 series are precision thermistor sensors designed for air temperature measurements. The product overview identifies these probes as ideal for measuring air temperatures in laboratories and laminar flow systems. Thermistors within the housing are epoxy coated to extend into airflow.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports a maximum working temperature of 100°C (212°F). While specific measurement ranges vary by configuration, documented interchangeability is specified at ±0.1°C or ±0.2°C over the range of 0 to 70°C depending on the thermistor element selected. For best stability, storage and operating temperatures are listed as -80 to 75°C (-110 to 165°F) for specific optional thermistors (44030 through 44034). The plastic housing variant is noted for high humidity applications.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable resistance curves, cable lengths, and termination options to accommodate different installation needs. Key capabilities include:
- Sensor Elements: Available in five standard resistance values at 25°C: 2252 Ω, 3000 Ω, 5000 Ω, 10000 Ω, and 30000 Ω. Tighter interchangeability options (±0.1°C) are available by substituting specific thermistor part numbers.
- Housing Materials: Options include a plastic housing or a sheath constructed from 300 Series Stainless Steel.
- Cable and Termination: Standard configurations feature stripped cable ends. A phone plug connector is available by adding 'PP' to the model number. Models ON-405 and ON-406 include a 3 m (10') vinyl insulated, shielded, vinyl jacketed cable.
- Cable Length Customization: Additional cable length can be ordered by appending the required length in inches directly to the end of the model number.
Physical dimensions for the probe assembly include an overall length of 32 mm (1¼ in) and a diameter of 13 mm (½ in). The insertion length is specified as 16 mm (⅝ in).
Key Product Differences
Differences within the series are defined by model number prefixes, resistance values, interchangeability classes, and termination styles. Models ON-405 and ON-406 are supplied with a phone plug connector ('PP') and 3 m (10') cable length, offering ±0.1°C interchangeability at 2252 Ω. The ON-905 series features stripped ends with a standard 300 mm (12") cable length; these models typically offer ±0.2°C interchangeability across the five resistance options unless an optional thermistor is substituted. The ON-906 series mirrors the ON-905 configuration but utilizes different model numbering for specific variants.

What is the K-value of the thermistor in an ON-906-44006?
The Omega Thermistors Temperature vs Resistance curves are defined by the Steinhart-Hart coefficients and they can be found in the Thermistor section of the website. If assistance is needed finding the information the Temperature Engineering group can be contacted at temp@omega.com.
