Supported Applications

The Omega PX140 Series consists of solid-state piezoresistive pressure transducers designed for exact measurement in applications requiring repeatability, low hysteresis, and long-term stability. These compact devices feature a 0.100" square silicon sensor chip with an implanted resistor diaphragm housed in thermoplastic or high-impact plastic cases. The series is suitable for industrial, consumer, military, medical, and automotive environments.

Measurement types include Vacuum Gage (PX141), Absolute (PX142-A), Differential (PX142-D/PX143-B), and Gage configurations. Media compatibility is strictly defined by port function:

  • P1 Port: Dry gases only.
  • P2 Port: Limited to media that will not attack polyester, silicon, borosilicate glass, or epoxy adhesive.

A pressure snubber is recommended for installations where fluid hammer and surges may occur. Liquid media containing highly ionic solutions could potentially neutralize the chip-to-glass tube bond.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The PX140 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -18° to +63°C (0° to +145°F) and a process/operating temperature range of -40° to +85°C (-40° to +185°F). Storage temperatures are rated from -55° to +125°C (-67° to +257°F).

Performance specifications vary by model and pressure range. Key characteristics include:

  • Response Time: 1.00 msec.
  • Hysteresis & Repeatability: ±0.15 % Span Typ., with specific values of ±0.30% FS for ranges ≤5 psi in certain configurations.
  • Linearity (B.F.S.L.): Ranges from ±0.40 % to ±1.50 % Span Max depending on the model and pressure direction (P2 > P1 or P2 < P1).
  • Excitation Voltage: 8.00 ±0.01 VDC regulated, with a supply range of 7.00 to 16.0 VDC.

The series meets MIL-STD-202 shock requirements (Method 213: 50g, half sine, 6 msec) and vibration standards (Method 204: 10 to 2000 Hz at 10g). Overpressure ratings vary by range; for example, the 0–30 psi range supports a maximum overpressure of 60 psi, while lower ranges may be limited to 20 or 30 psi.

Configuration Options

The PX140 Series offers configurable pressure ranges and output signals tailored to specific measurement needs. The series envelope includes:

  • Pressure Ranges:
  • Vacuum: -1 to 0 psiv, -5 to 0 psiv, -15 to 0 psiv.
  • Absolute: 0–15 psia, 0–30 psia.
  • Differential (Unidirectional): 0–1, 0–2, 0–5, 0–15, and 0–30 psid.
  • Differential (Bidirectional/±): ±1.0, ±2.5, ±5.0, and ±15 psi.
  • Output Signals:
  • Standard: 1 to 6 VDC output at full pressure range (span defined as algebraic difference between endpoints).
  • PX143 Bidirectional Models: ±2.5 VDC.
  • Housing & Connections:
  • High-impact plastic or thermoplastic housing with dimensions of 59.8 mm (L) x 16.2 mm (W) x 10.0 mm (H).
  • P1 and P2 ports for process connection.
  • Electrical connections via PCB terminals on the opposite side from the ports; mating connector CX136-3 is available as an accessory.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes models by measurement type and range, which directly influence accuracy and overpressure limits:

  • PX141 (Vacuum Gage): Designed for vacuum measurements (-1 to 0 psiv through -15 to 0 psiv). Linearity is specified as ±0.75 % Span Max.
  • PX142 (Absolute & Differential Unidirectional):
  • Absolute models (e.g., PX142-015A5V) measure 0–15 psia and 0–30 psia with ±0.75 % Span Max linearity.
  • Differential unidirectional models cover ranges from 0–1 to 0–30 psid, offering linearity between ±0.40% and ±1.50% depending on the specific range row in the order guide.
  • PX143 (Differential Bidirectional): Models such as PX143-2.5BD5V provide bidirectional measurement (± ranges). These models typically exhibit ±0.75 % Span Max linearity and a 1 to 6 VDC output centered around the null offset.

Soldering is limited to 315°C (600°F) maximum for 10 seconds duration. Cleaning should utilize alcohols or fluorinated solvents based on contaminants present.
