Supported Applications

The Omega OM-EL-USB-CO Series consists of professional USB data loggers designed to record Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas levels for later analysis. These standalone instruments measure CO concentration in free air and are intended for non-life-saving analysis projects only. The series is explicitly not an alarm, safety, or warning device; readings are taken at user-set sample intervals, and the LED/sounder indications do not provide adequate warning of dangerous CO levels.

For applications where human or animal safety is a concern, a nationally approved domestic or industrial CO detector/alarm must be installed. The OM-EL-USB-CO Series should not be used as a critical component in life support devices or systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -10 to 40°C (14 to 104°F) and supports operating pressures from 900 to 1100 mbar. Humidity ratings are specified as 15 to 90% RH (non-condensing). The sensor life is documented at 4 years; units must be replaced once expired.

Performance specifications vary by model:

  • OM-EL-USB-CO: Measurement range of 3 to 1000 ppm CO. Accuracy is ±2 ppm min, ±6% typ (Overall Error). Do not expose this model to levels above 1000 ppm.
  • OM-EL-USB-CO300: Measurement range of 0 to 300 ppm CO. Accuracy is ±5 ppm or ±4% typ, whichever is greater.

Both models feature an internal resolution of 0.5 ppm CO and a repeatability of ±3%. The response time (to reach 90%) is 1 minute. Long-term drift is specified at 5%/year with a zero offset of ±2 ppm CO.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable logging parameters via the supplied OM-EL-WIN-USB control software (EasyLog USB), compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7 and 8 (32- and 64-bit). Users can configure the logger name, start date/time, warning threshold, and logging rate.

Key configurable options include:

  • Logging Intervals: Selectable from a drop-down list: 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, or 5 min.
  • Status Indicators: Red and green LEDs indicate logging status (primed, in progress, low battery) and alarm conditions. An audible sounder activates approximately once per second when the warning threshold is exceeded and once every 60 seconds for low battery.
  • Latching Option: Latching can be enabled via software so the red LED remains latched if a stored value equals or exceeds the warning threshold.

The devices are powered by a user-replaceable ½ “AA” 3.6V lithium battery (included; replacement PN: OM-EL-BATT). Battery life is approximately 3 months with the supplied battery at a 5-minute logging rate, 25°C ambient temperature, audible warning disabled, and reading <10 ppm CO.

Key Product Differences

The series comprises two distinct models differentiated by measurement range:

  • OM-EL-USB-CO: Designed for a 3 to 1000 ppm CO range. This model is not suitable for direct exposure to levels above 1000 ppm (e.g., car or wood burner exhaust).
  • OM-EL-USB-CO300: Designed for a lower concentration range of 0 to 300 ppm CO.

Both models share identical physical dimensions: 125 mm (4.9 in) length and 26.4 mm (1.04 in) diameter, with a weight of 43 g (1.5 oz). Both include a protective cap and connect to a PC via USB for setup and data download.
