Supported Applications
The Omega BB-2A Series Blackbody Calibration Source is a portable, rugged bench-top device designed for testing and calibrating non-contact infrared temperature instruments. It serves as an economical reference signal source for pyrometers and provides long-term repeatability measurement capabilities for laboratory sensors.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within a temperature range of 66 to 343°C (150 to 650°F). The unit features a circular target area with an emissivity of 0.95 and includes a built-in dial indicating thermometer for temperature readout. Accuracy is specified as ±2% of rdg.
Configuration Options
The BB-2A series offers configurable power supply options to accommodate different electrical environments:
- Voltage and Frequency: 120 Vac*, 50/60 Hz or 240 Vac, 50/60 Hz.
- Power Consumption: 750 W for both voltage configurations.
The unit includes a potentiometer power controller and features the following physical characteristics:

Key Product Differences
Differences between models are defined by the power supply voltage, indicated in the model number:
- BB-2A: Blackbody calibration source configured for 120 Vac.
- BB-2A-240V (or BB-2A-230): Blackbody calibration source configured for 240 Vac or 230 Vac. For 230 Vac, add “-230” to the model number at no additional charge.
The unit is not recommended as a primary calibration reference.
