Supported Applications

The Omega CN1514 and CN1517 series are wall-mount, multi-zone ramp and soak process controllers designed for applications requiring up to seven independent control zones in a single enclosure. These units provide PID control for process stability or simple ON/OFF control modes. Each zone supports independent ramp/soak profiles with separate PID parameters and can be programmed for heating or cooling operations.

The series accepts signals from various transducers, including thermocouples (J, K, T, E, R, S, B), RTDs (Pt100), thermistors, 4-20 mA loop current, 0-5 Vdc and 0-10 Vdc voltage inputs, and 0-100 mV millivolt signals. The controller captures maximum and minimum readings for each zone and allows manual setpoint entry without entering full program mode.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CN1514-Series features a red 7-segment LED display with 0.8 inch (20 mm) height digits, capable of displaying negative polarity and over-range indications such as "HELP" for open thermocouples. The unit utilizes a 20,000 count A/D converter with dual slope integrating conversion at a typical rate of seven conversions per second.

Performance specifications vary by input type:

  • Scan Rate: Two channels per second; channel display time is programmable from 1 to 999 seconds.
  • Resolution: 1°C/°F for thermocouples and RTDs; 0.1°C/0.2°F for thermistors; process resolution options include 9999, 999.9, 99.99, and 9.999.
  • Accuracy: Thermocouples (J, K, T, E) offer ±1°C ±1 count or ±2°F ±1 count; R, S, B types provide ±3°C ±1 count or ±6°F ±1 count within their respective ranges. RTD accuracy is ±1°C ±1 count or ±2°F ±1 count. Thermistor accuracy is ±0.5°C ±1 count or ±1.0°F ±1 count.
  • Electrical Inputs: Voltage and Current inputs maintain 0.05% FS accuracy with a scale programmable from 1 to 30,000 counts.

The enclosure is constructed of polystyrene with a crystal-clear polycarbonate lid, rated up to IP65 (DIN standard). The unit weighs 1.4 kg (3 lb) and measures 192 W x 160 H x 103 mm D (7.55 x 6.29 x 4.05").

Configuration Options

The series is available in two primary configurations: the CN1514 for four-zone control and the CN1517 for seven-zone control. Both models share identical performance specifications but differ in channel count.

  • Housing & Mounting: Sealed, wall-mount plastic enclosure with a clear front door; the CN1517 model features a removable front cover for easy wiring access.
  • Power Options: Standard 120 Vac—60 Hz; optional 220 Vac—50/60 Hz or 15 Vdc @ 900 mA (suffix -2).
  • Control Outputs: Each zone provides a 5 Vdc drive @ 50 mA output. The series supports external control relay installation and direct interface to universal relay modules.
  • PID Parameters: Configurable proportional band from 0 to 100% of span, reset from 0.00 to 50.00 repeats per minute, and rate from 0 to 500 seconds. On/Off deadband is programmable from 0 to FS.
  • Input Codes: Programmable inputs include TC (J, K, T, E), RTD (100 Ω), TH (Thermistor), R, S, B thermocouples, and MV (millivolt/current/voltage).

Accessories available for the series include the RELAY-URM-400 Universal 15 A mechanical 4-relay module and the RELAY-URM-800 Universal 15 A mechanical 8-relay module.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between models in this series is the number of control zones:

  • CN1514: Wall-mount 4-zone controller. References to channel numbers apply only to channels 1 through 4.
  • CN1517: Wall-mount 7-zone controller. References to channel numbers apply to channels 1 through 7; this model includes a removable front cover for wiring access.

Input capabilities are defined by the selected input code suffix (e.g., -TC, -RTD, -TH, -R, -S, -B, -MV), which determines whether the unit accepts thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors, or electrical signals. All models support 4 to 20 mA and 0 to 10 Vdc inputs alongside their primary sensor type.
