Supported Applications
The Omega TJ36-XSiB series consists of rugged thermocouple transition joint probes designed for harsh conditions. These sensors utilize Super OMEGACLAD® XL Compacted Mineral Insulation Cable with Inconel® overbraided Nextel® lead wire and ceramic insulation, enabling operation in high-temperature environments up to 815°C (1500°F). The series is engineered for applications requiring robust temperature measurement where standard probes may fail due to thermal stress or mechanical strain.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The TJ36-XSiB series supports a broad range of upper temperature limits depending on the specific thermocouple type, sheath material, and diameter. The documented measurement ranges include:
- K CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®: 899°C (1650°F) to 1204°C (2200°F)
- J IRON-CONSTANTAN: 441°C (825°F) to 721°C (1330°F)
- T COPPER-CONSTANTAN: 260°C (500°F) to 371°C (700°F)
Specific upper temperature guidelines vary by configuration. For example, K-type probes with a 304 SS sheath list an upper limit of 899°C (1650°F), while XL sheaths support up to 1204°C (2200°F). The series meets or exceeds Special Limit of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1 standards. A spring strain relief is integrated into the design to prevent wire pinching at the transition joint.
Sheath Materials
- 304 SS (Stainless Steel)
- INC 600 (Inconel® 600)
- XL (Super OMEGACLAD® XL Compacted Mineral Insulation Cable)
Configuration Options
The series offers extensive configurability across sheath diameters, junction types, probe lengths, and electrical terminations. The standard lead length is 1000 mm (40"). Probe stem lengths are available in stock at 150 mm (6"), 300 mm (12"), and 450 mm (18").
Sheath Diameters
- 1.59 mm (1/16 in)
- 3.18 mm (1/8 in)
- 4.78 mm (3/16 in)
- 6.35 mm (1/4 in)
Junction Types
The model number guide specifies junction types as:
- (J) rounded
- (E)xposed
- (U)ngrounded
Grounded immersion probes are also available in the variant list.
Electrical Connections
The standard termination is stripped leads. Optional male plugs include:
- Straight M8 plug (add "M8-S-M")
- Straight M12 plug (add "M12-S-M")
- Right-angled M8 plug (add "M8-R-M")
- Right-angled M12 plug (add "M12-S-M")
A Probe Configurator is available for additional cold-end terminations, sheath materials, and lead wire options.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the TJ36-XSiB series are distinguished by thermocouple type (K, J, T), sheath material (304 SS, INC 600, XL), diameter code, junction configuration, and probe length. Model numbers follow the format: TJ36-----CC-XSiB. For example, a K-type probe with an Inconel® 600 sheath, 1/8 inch diameter, ungrounded junction, and 300 mm (12") length is designated as TJ36-CAIN-18U-12-CC-XSiB. The series includes both exposed air probes for ambient measurement and grounded/ungrounded immersion probes for process media.
