Supported Applications
The Omega RPL Series consists of precision parallel pneumatic grippers designed for low-profile, long-finger applications. The series features preloaded V roller bearings to eliminate side play, providing excellent part positioning suitable for delicate parts.
- Precision gripping with rigid, low-friction design
- Long finger configurations enabled by the structural rigidity of the unit
Operating Conditions & Performance
The RPL Series operates on a dry filtered air supply (40 micron or better) within a pressure range of 0.3 to 7 bar (5 to 100 psi). A 4-way, 2-position valve and regulator are required for actuation.
- Grip Force: Ranges from 116 N (26 lb) on the RPL-1M and RPL-2M models to 160 N (36 lb) on the RPL-3M model, measured at 7 bar (100 psi).
- Stroke: Available in increments of 6.4 mm (0.25"), 12.7 mm (0.50"), and 19.1 mm (0.75").
- Accuracy & Repeatability: Accuracy is ±0.05 mm (±0.002") with repeatability of ±0.03 mm (±0.001").
- Actuation Time: Ranges from 0.10 sec to 0.14 sec depending on the model.
- Cycle Life: Rated for up to 5 million cycles in typical operation and 10 million with maintenance.
Configuration Options
The series is constructed from a one-piece lightweight aluminum body with hard-coat anodize (60 RC) and PTFE impregnation. Three primary models are available, distinguished by stroke length, grip force, and physical dimensions.
- RPL-1M: 44.5 mm (1.750") body length; 6.4 mm (0.25") stroke; 116 N (26 lb) grip force; weight 0.07 Kg (0.16 lb).
- RPL-2M: 59.5 mm (2.344") body length; 12.7 mm (0.50") stroke; 116 N (26 lb) grip force; weight 0.09 Kg (0.20 lb).
- RPL-3M: 80 mm (3.150") body length; 19.1 mm (0.75") stroke; 160 N (36 lb) grip force; weight 0.15 Kg (0.32 lb).
Loading Capacities: Static and dynamic loading limits vary by model for tensile, compressive, and moment loads (Mx, My, Mz). For example, the RPL-1M supports a maximum static tensile load of 222 N (50 lbs) and a maximum static moment Mx of 3.4 Nm (30"/lbs).
Temperature Ratings:
- Standard seals: -35 to 80°C (-30 to 180°F)
- FKM seals (add "-V" suffix): -30 to 120°C (-20 to 250°F)
Sensor and Control Options: The series supports optional magneto resistive sensors for position feedback. Available accessories include sensor mounting kits, NPN or PNP short barrel sensors with quick disconnect fittings, extension cables (2 m / 6.6' or 5 m / 16'), and an M5 fail safe valve.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between models is the stroke length and resulting grip force capability. The RPL-3M offers a larger cylinder bore (12.7 mm / 0.500") compared to the RPL-1M and RPL-2M (11.1 mm / 0.438"), enabling higher grip force.
- Standard models feature synchronous jaws; non-synchronous motion options providing independent jaw operation require consultation with sales.
- Gripper fingers and adapter plates are not included in the standard configuration and remain the customer's responsibility for tooling selection.
