Supported Applications

The Omega FPDM3000 Series consists of positive displacement oval gear flow meters designed for measuring viscous liquids. These instruments utilize the oval rotor principle to provide reliable and highly accurate totalized flow readings suitable for both gravity-fed systems and pump-driven (in-line) applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series maintains consistent accuracy despite changing viscosity conditions, with a standard operating range from 1 cPs minimum to 1000 cPs maximum. Accuracy is specified as ±1% of reading with repeatability of ±0.03%. The meters operate within a process temperature range of -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F); the FPDM3200 series supports an extended high-temperature option ("-HT") up to -40 to 120°C (-40 to 248°F). The pressure rating is 3400 kPa (500 psi).

Pressure drop varies by viscosity and flow percentage. For standard rotors at 1 cPs, the pressure drop is 2 psi for both 100% and 50% flow conditions; at 1000 cPs, it increases to 14 psi (100% flow) and 12 psi (50% flow). No straight run piping is required upstream or downstream of the meter.

Configuration Options

The FPDM3000 Series offers configurable port sizes, wetted materials, connection types, and totalization units to accommodate specific installation needs. Available configurations include:

  • Port Sizes: ½", 1", 1½", and 2".
  • Flow Ranges: Vary by port size and viscosity (e.g., FPDM3004 at ½" covers 3 to 25 LPM for fluids <5cPs, or 2 to 30 LPM for fluids >5cPs).
  • Process Connections: NPT is standard. Options include BSP (add "-BSP", no additional charge), DIN flanges (-DIN), JIS flanges (-JIS), and ANSI flanges (-ANSI) with additional charges.
  • Totalization Units: Gallons or Liters; add "-L" to the model number for liters totalization (no additional cost).
  • Rotor Options: High viscosity rotors are available for FPDM3200 and FPDM3300 series by adding "-HV".

Key Product Differences

The series comprises three distinct model families—FPDM3000, FPDM3200, and FPDM3300—which differ primarily in wetted material construction:

  • FPDM3000 Series: Features an Aluminum meter body with Polyphenylene Sulfide standard rotors. Rotor shafts are Stainless Steel 316.
  • FPDM3200 Series: Constructed entirely of Stainless Steel 316 for the meter body, rotor shafts, and standard rotors. This series supports high-temperature (-HT) options with Stainless Steel 316 high-temperature rotors and Carbon rotor brushes.
  • FPDM3300 Series: Utilizes an Aluminum meter body but employs Stainless Steel 316 for both the standard and high-viscosity rotors. It includes Carbon rotor brushes similar to the FPDM3200 series.

All three families share a Gear Assembly of Stainless Steel 316-Acetal, Cover Plate of Stainless Steel 316, and Output Gear-Shaft Assembly of Stainless Steel 316-FKM-Acetal. O-Rings are FKM for the FPDM3000 series and FEP/PTFE Encapsulated for the FPDM3200 and FPDM3300 series.
