Supported Applications

The Omega PX480A Series comprises OEM-style, compact pressure transducers designed for general industrial and commercial requirements. Based on micro-machined silicon technology, these units provide high reliability and long-term stability for measuring Gage Pressure, Vacuum, Compound Pressure, Absolute, Sealed, and High-Pressure ranges.

Documented measurement capabilities span from vacuum up to 3000 PSI (for specific series members), with wetted parts constructed of 316L stainless steel or brass depending on the model family. The transducers are compatible with a wide range of media, including water, light oils, dense liquids, gases, and steam when paired with appropriate pressure snubber accessories.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F). Process temperatures are rated from -40 to 100°C (-40 to 212°F) for most configurations, with specific low-pressure Gage ranges supporting up to 125°C (257°F).

Reference accuracy is specified as ±0.3% FS max (including linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability) for the PX480A millivolt output models. Other series members exhibit varying accuracies based on range: ±1.0% FS MAX for 0 to 1 PSI ranges, ±0.5% FS MAX for 0 to 6 PSI ranges, and ±0.2% FS TYP / ±0.3% FS MAX for Vacuum up to 500 PSI or higher Gage ranges.

Thermal effects on zero and span are limited to a maximum of 2% FS over the compensated temperature range (-25 to 75°C). The series withstands shock ratings of 30G (or 30 g) and vibration up to 10G, 55 - 2000 Hz. Overpressure protection is rated at 2X Full Scale (FS), with a specific limit of 750 PSI for the 500 PSI range.

Configuration Options

The PX480A Series offers extensive configuration options across sensor materials, output signals, and electrical connections to suit diverse integration needs.

  • Sensor Materials: Models are available with 316L stainless steel wetted parts (PX48xA series) or brass/borosilicate/silicon/RTV/epoxy construction (PX18xB series).
  • Output Signals: Configurations include millivolt bridge output, voltage output (1-5 VDC), and current output (4-20 mA). Millivolt outputs provide 0 to 50 mV for 0 to 1 psi models and 0 to 100 mV for all other ranges.
  • Electrical Connections: Options include a standard 36" cable with 24 AWG wire or a DIN 43650 Form C connector. Cable shield, power supply, and receiver groundings are optional depending on installation requirements.
  • Housing & Dimensions: The electronics housing is aluminum, black anodized. Overall dimensions vary by pressure type: 2.84" [72.0 mm] for Absolute & High Pressure models; 2.6510 MAX for Gage Pressure models.
  • Process Connections: Standard connection is 1/8-27 NPT (or ¼ NPT male as noted in specific data sheets).

Accessories include pressure snubbers: PS-8E for water or light oils, PS-8D for dense liquids or oils, and PS-8G for gases and steam.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between material families and output types through specific model prefixes. The PX180B/181B/182B family utilizes brass wetted materials, while the PX480A/481A/482A family employs stainless steel.

  • Millivolt Output: Models such as PX180B and PX480A provide a bridge output (mV/V) with 36" cable connections. Conductor colors for these models are Red (+Vin), Black (-Vin), White (-S), and Green (+S).
  • Voltage & Current Output: Models such as PX181B/481A provide 1-5 VDC output, while PX182B/482A provide 4-20 mA current output. These models support DIN 43650-C connectors (indicated by the 'D' suffix in model numbers like PX481AD or PX482AD) and utilize different wire color codes: Red (+Vin), Black (-Vin), White (Vout/N/A for Current), Green (Case Ground).
  • Pressure Types: The series supports Absolute, Compound, Gage, Sealed, and Vacuum ranges. Specific model numbers denote the pressure type via suffixes such as 'A' (Absolute), 'C' (Compound), 'G' (Gage), 'S' (Sealed), or 'VAC' (Vacuum).
