Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series MDS Miniature Pressure Switch is a low-cost, lightweight device designed for OEM applications. The series features a double diaphragm construction intended to prevent false actuation from shock and vibration. Documented application areas include air proving, ventilation flow monitoring, exhaust ducts, cleaning and purification processes, heavy equipment, and general pressure monitoring.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series MDS operates within an ambient temperature range of 40 to 150°F (4 to 66°C). The switch utilizes a gold contact mechanism rated for a maximum 40 mA resistive load, providing a life expectancy in excess of 20 million cycles. It features an extremely fast response time and is described as shock and vibration resistant.
Pressure limits vary by set point configuration: models with a set point less than 3.0 in w.c. have a limit of 8 psi, while those with a set point greater than 3.0 in w.c. are rated to 15 psi. The switching media is specified as air or compatible fluids applied on the "high" side.
Configuration Options
The series offers multiple fixed set points ranging from low differential pressures up to high ranges, identified by specific model suffixes (e.g., MDS-0 through MDS-14). The device is housed in polycarbonate and includes brass tab-type electrical connections designed for use with quick disconnections. Process connection options include two barbed ports compatible with 1/8"–3/16" ID tubing.
Key configurable parameters and specifications include:
- Set Points (in w.c.): Available ranges include 0 to 0.5, 1 to 1.0, 2 to 1.5, 3 to 2.0, 4 to 3.0, 6 to 6.0, 7 to 8.0, 8 to 10.0, 15 to 12.0, 10 to 15.0, 11 to 20.0, 12 to 30.0, and 14 to 50.0.
- Switch Type: SPST normally open.
- Operating Voltage: AC/DC - 30 V or less with resistive load (noted as AD/DC in some documentation).
- Wetted Materials: Polyurethane diaphragm and brass barbed ports. Note: One source document lists the diaphragm material as polyacrylate; the series-specific data sheet specifies polyurethane.
- Housing Material: Polycarbonate.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Series MDS are distinguished primarily by their set point ranges, indicated in the model number (e.g., MDS-0 corresponds to 0 - 0.5 in w.c.; MDS-14 corresponds to 14 - 50.0 in w.c.). The series maintains a consistent physical form factor with overall dimensions of approximately 2x 47/64 [18.65] height, 25/64 [9.92] width, and 1/2 [12.7] depth. Mounting is facilitated by holes spaced at 2x 5/16 [7.94] with a diameter of Ø3/32 [Ø2.54]. The device weighs less than 0.353 oz (10 g). Agency approvals include cULus, and the product carries a USA: California Proposition 65 warning regarding exposure to chemicals including Lead.
