Supported Applications
The Omega LVE-950 Series consists of Mini 1/4 in Optical Level Switches designed for detecting liquid levels using optical principles. These electro-optic sensors are engineered for industrial applications requiring non-contact level detection with a compact footprint and high operating temperature capability up to 110°C (230°F). The series is suitable for environments where small, no-moving-parts sensors are required.
Important operational constraints include:
- Liquid Type: Not for use in freezing liquids or steam/high condensation environments.
- Ambient Conditions: Do not install the sensor close to infrared sources, incandescent light, or reflective surfaces that may interfere with proper operation of the optical sensor.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LVE-950 Series operates within a defined envelope for temperature, pressure, and electrical parameters. The series supports an operating temperature range of -40 to 110°C (-40 to 230°F) for both ambient and process conditions.
- Operating Pressure: 0 to 250 psi (0 to 17 bar) maximum.
- Power Supply: 12 Vdc ±10%.
- Current Consumption: Approximately 10 mA at no load on a 12 Vdc supply.
- Output Signal: Open drain configuration capable of sinking up to 40 mA maximum, with an output voltage rating up to 30 Vdc.
- Repeatability: ±1 mm.
Ambient light immunity varies by container type: the sensor supports a maximum ambient light of 390 FT-CD for black containers and 30 FT-CD for opaque containers, based on minimum readings from at least two samples.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options across housing materials, process connections, actuation conditions, and accessories to address specific installation needs. The LVE-951-B variant features a brass housing with a fused glass prism for enhanced durability in challenging environments.
Housing Materials & Wetted Parts
- Polysulfone: Standard housing and prism material (LVE-951, LVE-952).
- Nickel Plated Brass with Glass Prism: Available for the LVE-951-B model.
Process Connections & Dimensions
- Thread Types: ¼ MNPT and M12 x 1 (M12 x 1 - 8G).
- Overall Length: 1 7/16" (35.36 mm) for standard models; extended lengths of 152.4 to 203.2 (6 to 8) mm are available on specific M12 variants.
- Diameter: 11/16" HEX (17.5 mm).
Electrical & Actuation Options
- Actuation Conditions: Available in "Wet" (LVE-951) and "Dry" (LVE-952) configurations.
- Lead Wires: 3x TPE insulated, 22 AWG lead wires with lengths ranging from 6 to 8 inches depending on the model.
Accessories & Special Options
- LVE-950-R: DC relay board for higher current loads, powered by 120 Vac.
- LVE-950-R-NEMA4: DC switchbox for higher current loads with NEMA 4 rating, powered by 120 Vac.
Key Product Differences
The LVE-950 Series distinguishes models based on housing material, thread type, and actuation logic. The standard polysulfone models (LVE-951/952) are available in both ¼ MNPT and M12 x 1 configurations.
- LVE-951 / LVE-952: Polysulfone housing; Wet or Dry actuation respectively. Available with ¼ NPT or M12 threads (e.g., LVE-951-M12, LVE-952-M12).
- LVE-951-B: Brass body with glass prism; Wet actuation only; available in ¼ MNPT configuration.
Note: The Mating O-Ring Gland Design specifies a Ø .570 ± .002 [14.5 ± .05 mm] dimension and includes specific tolerances for the gland interface (e.g., .020 [.50 mm], .150 [3.80 mm]). For inductive loads, diode suppression is required.
