Supported Applications

The Omega LD320 series consists of AC LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) displacement sensors designed for accurate and reliable performance in wet and corrosive conditions. These transducers measure linear position with a guided core featuring a removable spring, providing frictionless operation suitable for industrial automation environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LD320 series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 120°C (-40 to 248°F), matching the storage temperature specification. The sensors feature a rugged construction with an IP67 protection rating and are built from 300 SS (Stainless Steel) housing material.

Performance specifications include:

  • Linearity: <0.2% FSO
  • Excitation Voltage: 3 ± 1 Vrms at an excitation frequency of 5 ± 0.5 kHz
  • Residual Voltage at Null Position: <0.5% FSO
  • Vibration Rating (Sinusoidal Frequency): 10 to 50 Hz: 1 to 10 g rms linear; 50 Hz to 1 kHz: 10 g rms linear
  • Shock: Drop Testing of 1 m (3') onto a hard surface and Topple Testing of 10 times each end onto a hard surface

Configuration Options

The series offers measurement ranges from ±2.5 mm to ±150 mm, with specific model numbers corresponding to discrete range increments (±2.5, ±5, ±7.5, ±10, ±15, ±25, ±50, ±75, ±100, and ±150 mm). The physical dimensions vary by range: body length "A" ranges from 55.0 to 412.0 mm (2.2 to 16.2 in), while fully extended dimension "B" spans 31.5 to 457.3 mm (1.2 to 18.0 in).

Key configuration details include:

  • Sensor Element: Nickel-iron core material
  • Housing Dimensions: Diameter of 19.00 mm (0.75 in) with a stem length of 25.00 mm (1.0 in)
  • Process Connection: M6 x 1.0-6g full thread
  • Cable: PFA, 2 m (6') long
  • Electrical Output Signals: +EXC, -EXC, +SIG, -SIG
  • Wiring Code: RED (+ EXC), BLUE (- EXC), YELLOW (+ SIG), GREEN (- SIG)

The series supports compatible instrumentation including LDX-D, LDX-2, LDX-3A, LDX-4, and DPL53 models. Accessories available for the LD320 include a Tip adaptor/ball tip (LD-TIP) and a U-joint retro fit kit (LD-UJOINT-KIT).

Key Product Differences

The primary variation within the LD320 series is defined by the measurement range, which directly dictates the physical length of the sensor body. Model numbers follow the format LD320-, where the suffix indicates the specific displacement span (e.g., LD320-7.5 for ±7.5 mm). While broader Omega family documentation references other output types such as 4-20 mA, isolated DC voltage, and digital outputs across related series, the LD320 data sheet specifically documents AC LVDT variants with standard excitation and signal terminals.
