Supported Applications
The Omega SGK series comprises Karma Shear and Torque Pattern Gauges designed for shear strain and torsional strain measurement. These sensors are utilized in transducer design, specifically for shear beam load cells and reaction torque on shafts.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Gauges in this series feature a nominal resistance of 350 Ω or 1000 Ω depending on the specific pattern. The maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage (Vrms) varies by model, with values listed as either 11 Vrms or 15 Vrms based on temperature compensation requirements. Electrical termination is provided via solder pads.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple configuration options to accommodate different installation and wiring needs:
- Gage Patterns: Available in single ¼ bridge, single ¼ matched reversed pattern, ½ bridge with separate leads/tabs, or ½ bridge with a common lead/tab.
- Temperature Compensation (TEMP COMP): Configured for Steel (ST) or Aluminum (AL).
- Dimensions: Active gage lengths range from 9.2 mm to 10.2 mm, with corresponding matrix dimensions detailed in the specification table.
- Packaging: Models are supplied in packages of 5 units.
Custom gauges are available with fast delivery for specialized requirements.
Accessories and Options
- Ribbon leads from the strain gage or user-supplied fine gauge wire (30 AWG).
- Instrumentation wire ranging from 20 to 28 AWG.
- Bondable Terminal Pads (BTP) for stress relief and junctions for different-gauge wires.
Key Product Differences
The SGK series distinguishes models by gage pattern, resistance value, temperature compensation material, and maximum voltage rating. Model numbers follow the format SGK-<PATTERN>-K350U-PC11 or PC23-E. The suffix indicates specific configuration details:
- Patterning Codes (SS vs SD): Differentiate between shear and torsion patterns with varying active lengths (e.g., 9.2 mm for SS series, 9.8–10.2 mm for SD series).
- Resistance: Most models are 350 Ω; the SGK-SDH3B variant is available in 1000 Ω.
- Temperature Compensation Suffixes (PC11 vs PC23): Determine compatibility with Steel or Aluminum substrates and define the maximum bridge energizing voltage (11 Vrms for ST, 15 Vrms for AL).
