Supported Applications

The Omega HPS Integral Standard series comprises handheld thermocouple immersion probes designed for various temperature measurement applications. These integral handle probes feature custom measurement tips engineered for penetration, fast response, surface contact, and air flow measurements.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Probes meet or exceed Special Limit of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. The series supports process temperatures up to 900°C (1650°F), with specific ranges including 0 to 1600°F, 0 to 260°C (500°F), and 0 to 870°C (1650°F). Ambient operating temperature is rated to 70°C (160°F).

  • Rated temperatures are dependent on thermocouple type, sheath diameter, and environment.
  • A warning applies: subjecting the sensor tip to temperatures above 316°C (600°F) will result in damage to the tip.

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across thermocouple alloys, sheath materials, junction types, and probe dimensions. Probes are available with thermocouple calibrations J (Iron-Constantan), K (Chromega®-Alomega®), T (Copper-Constantan), E (Chromega®-Constantan), and N.

Junction Types

Each configuration is offered with Grounded, Ungrounded, or Exposed junctions.

Dimensions and Lengths

  • Probe diameters: 1.5 mm (1/16"), 3.0 mm (1/8"), 4.5 mm (3/16"), and 6.0 mm (1/4").
  • Maximum lengths vary by diameter: 900 mm (36") for 1.5 mm, 750 mm (30") for 3.0 mm, 600 mm (24") for 4.5 mm, and 450 mm (18") for 6.0 mm.
  • Standard overall length is 300 mm (12").
  • Note: For probe lengths over the maximum listed, consult quotations for special heavy duty construction probes.
  • Note: Probes with lengths over 600 mm (24") are supplied with an HDX aluminum handle; standard handles are high impact plastic rated to 70°C (160°F).

Electrical Connections and Customization

The series features an SMP Molded Miniature Male Connector on a retractable cable. Other terminations, including stripped leads with other connector sizes, are available via custom assemblies.

Key Product Differences

Variants differ by thermocouple alloy (J, K, T, E), sheath material (Inconel or 304SS), junction type (Grounded/G, Ungrounded/U, Exposed/E), and probe diameter. Model numbers follow the format HPS-----. For example: HPS-CASS-14G-12-SMP-M.

  • Alloy codes include IC (Iron-Constantan), CA (Chromega®-Alomega®), CP (Copper-Constantan), and CX (Chromega®-ConstantAN).
  • Diameter codes correspond to 1/16" (116), 1/8" (18), 3/16" (316), and 1/4" (14).
