Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series PG Gas Pressure Switches are designed for pressure, vacuum, and differential pressure applications involving air or compatible gases. The series utilizes a large sensitive diaphragm to actuate mercury switches or snap switches, separating two pressure chambers for adaptability in various control scenarios.

  • Natural gas systems
  • Manufactured gas systems
  • Liquefied petroleum (LP) gas systems

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series PG offers a repeatability of ±1% of full range. Process temperature limits are specified as -10 to 180°F (-23 to 82°C). Wetted materials include Fairprene, brass, steel, and aluminum.

Pressure ratings vary by application mode:

  • Single pressure use on high side: Sustained pressure: 15 psig (1.0 bar); Surge limit: 20 psig (1.4 bar).
  • Differential pressure use, range P1: Sustained pressure: 2 psig (0.14 bar).
  • Differential pressure use, range P2: Sustained pressure: 10 psig (0.7 bar).

Adjustable Measurement Ranges

The series supports the following adjustable differential pressure ranges:

  • P1: 1.0" - 30" H2O / 1 - 17 oz.
  • P2: 1/2 - 5 Psig (also KG/cm²)

Configuration Options

The Series PG is configurable across multiple circuit types, housing options, and special service requirements. External set point adjustment is provided via a screw mechanism.

Circuit Configurations & Ratings

Switching elements include SPST mercury switches, SPDT mercury switches, SPDT snap switches, and hermetically sealed snap switches (silver or gold). DPDT options are available. Electrical ratings vary by circuit code:

  • Mercury Switches (Code M): 4 A @ 120 VAC/VDC; 2 A @ 240 VAC/VDC.
  • Mercury Switches (Code K): 6 A @ 120 VDC/VAC; 3 A @ 240 VAC/VDC.
  • Mercury Switches (Code L): 10 A @ 120 VAC/VDC; 5 A @ 240 VAC/VDC.
  • Snap Acting Switch (-7000-153): 15A at 120 VAC, 8A at 240 VAC, 0.5A at 120 VDC, 0.25A at 240 VDC.
  • Hermetically Sealed Silver Snap (-7000-153HG): 1 A @ 125 VAC; 1 A resistive @ 30 VDC.

Housing & Enclosure Options

The standard enclosure is General Purpose, NEMA 1. Weather-resistant enclosures (NEMA 2, 3R) are available as an option. The unit features a vertical mounting orientation with screw-type electrical connections and a conduit connection hole of 7/8" (22.23 mm) for a 1/2" (12.7 mm) hub.

Process Connections

  • Rear Pressure Chamber: 1/2" male NPT, 1/8" female NPT.
  • Front Pressure Chamber: 1/8" female NPT.

Special Options & Accessories

The series supports various options including:

  • Fungus proofing special (-23720)
  • O₂ acetylene special (-23444)
  • Rigid conduit hub (-RCH)
  • Preparation for EP
  • Preset and pressure check set point
  • Aluminum or stainless steel tags (riveted or wired)

Key Product Differences

The series includes distinct model families defined by reset behavior:

  • PG: General purpose enclosure, NEMA 1.
  • PR: Manual reset; operates on pressure increase automatically and resets on decrease.
  • PRL: Manual reset; operates on pressure decrease automatically and resets on increase.

Circuit suffixes define the switch action (e.g., -2 opens on increase, -3 closes on increase) and electrical code. Specific models such as PG-7000 utilize a single snap switch, while PG-7200 utilizes double snap switches with different ratings.
