Supported Applications

The Omega TJ36 series comprises rugged transition joint probes designed for temperature measurement using thermocouple technology. These fine-diameter sensors feature a metal probe section transitioning to PFA-coated lead wire, intended for applications requiring flexibility and durability in the sensor assembly.

  • Temperature sensing with Type K (CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®), J (IRON-CONSTANTAN), T (COPPER-CONSTANTAN), E, and N calibrations
  • Type K and N configurations available with Super OMEGACLAD® XL compacted mineral insulation cable for harsh conditions

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series meets or exceeds Special Limit of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. Process temperature limits vary by sheath material, thermocouple type, and diameter as documented in the specification table:

  • Type K with XL sheath: Up to 800°C (1472°F)
  • Type K with 304 SS or Inconel® 600 sheaths: Up to 700°C (1290°F) for diameters ≥0.50 mm; up to 500°C (932°F) for 0.25 mm diameter
  • Type J and Type T with 304 SS sheath: Up to 260°C (500°F)

The entire assembly is rated to 260°C (500°F). Sheath diameters range from 0.25 mm (0.010") to 1.00 mm (0.040"). Standard probe lengths include 150 mm (6"), 300 mm (12"), and 450 mm (18"), with custom lengths available in increments.

Configuration Options

Sheath Materials & Wetted Parts

  • Standard: 304 SS, Inconel® 600
  • Additional options: 310 SS, 316 SS, 321 SS, Super OMEGACLAD® XL (XL)

Junction Types & Electrical Connections

The series supports three junction configurations specified in the model number:

  • Exposed (E)
  • Grounded (G)
  • Ungrounded (U)

Standard termination is stripped lead wire. Optional connectors include a miniature connector (suffix SMPW-M) and a standard connector (suffix OSTW-M). A spring strain relief prevents pinching of the wire at the transition joint.

Cable & Lead Wire

  • PFA-coated 24-stranded lead wire, typically 1 m (40") in length for standard configurations
  • Stainless steel overbraid available on select models to protect the PFA jacket

Special Options & Calibration

The series offers Cal-5 calibration availability. Type K and N probes can be manufactured with Super OMEGACLAD® XL compacted mineral insulation cable.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the TJ36-FG series are distinguished by thermocouple type, sheath material code (e.g., CASS for 304 SS Type K, CAIN for Inconel® 600 Type K), diameter designation (010 through 040 representing mm/inch equivalents), junction style (E/G/U), and insertion length. Model numbers follow the format TJ36----. Specific suffixes denote connector options or overbraid protection.

  • Type J probes are not available in 0.25 mm (0.010") diameter
  • 316 SS, 310 SS, and 321 SS sheaths require modifying the 'SS' code to '316SS', '310SS', or '321SS' in the model number with no additional charge noted for material change alone.
