Supported Applications

The Omega PRTXB and PRTXAL series are rugged digital temperature gauges featuring precision RTD probes. These indicators provide local readout of process temperatures with a 100 Ω Platinum RTD sensor in a NEMA 4X (IP65) housing. The series supports capture of minimum and maximum readings, selectable units (°C, °F, K), and auto shutoff times.

Models are configured for direct insertion or use with standard thermowells; spring-loaded probe versions fit standard thermowells. A thermowell is required for spring-loaded models to protect the sensor during installation in pressurized systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series measures temperatures from -50.0 to 200.0°C (-58.0 to 392.0°F) with an extrapolated range for out-of-range conditions. Resolution is 0.1 degree, user selectable in °C or °F.

• Accuracy: Includes linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability; ±0.3°C at 0°C and ±1.1°C at 150°C with 11-point linearization.
• Ambient Operating Range: -20 to 85°C (-4 to 185°F) at housing.
• Storage Temperature: -40 to 95°C (-40 to 203°F).
• Display Update Rate: 4 readings per second nominal on a 4-digit LCD (0.5" H, 5 character) with 0.25" H alphanumeric display.

The sensor utilizes an IEC-751 Class B 100 Ω Platinum RTD with a 0.00385 alpha curve. The probe features a ½ NPT male connection and is constructed of 316 stainless steel wetted materials.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable power, alarm output, display backlighting, and sensor insertion lengths to meet specific installation needs.

• Power Supply:
  • Battery Power (PRTXB and PRTXBL models): Two 'AA' alkaline batteries included. Battery life is approximately 1000 hours for B models; BL models offer approximately 150 to 750 hours depending on backlight usage.
  • Alarm Power (PRTXAL and PRTXALBL models): 8 to 24 Vac, 50/60 Hz or 9 to 32 Vdc, reverse polarity protected. Includes a 3", 2-conductor 22 AWG cable for power.
• Alarm Outputs: PRTXAL and PRTXALBL models feature two independent SPDT relays rated at 0.5A/115 Vac, 1A/24 Vdc (non-inductive).
• Display Options: BL models include a red LED backlight activated by button press for 1 minute.
• Housing and Materials: ABS/polycarbonate NEMA 4X case with rear gasket, polycarbonate label, and aluminum sensor block. Weight is approximately 12 ounces (product) or 1 pound (shipping).

Probe insertion lengths are available in fixed configurations of 64 mm (2.5"), 102 mm (4"), 152 mm (6"), 229 mm (9"), and 305 mm (12"). Spring-loaded versions (-SL) are offered for the same lengths.

Key Product Differences

The series is divided into four primary model families based on power source, alarm capability, and display features:

• PRTXB Series: Battery-powered digital temperature indicators without backlight or alarms. Includes fixed length (e.g., PRTXB-6) and spring-loaded (-SL) options.
• PRTXBL Series: Battery-powered models with a red LED display backlight. Backlight usage impacts battery life to approximately 150 to 750 hours depending on frequency of activation.
• PRTXAL Series: Models powered by external AC/DC supply (8–24 Vac or 9–32 Vdc) featuring two independent SPDT relay alarm outputs. No display backlight is included in this family.
• PRTXALBL Series: Combines the PRTXAL features with a red LED display backlight, powered by external AC/DC supply.

All models share identical sensor technology (100 Ω Platinum RTD), accuracy specifications, and housing construction. The primary distinctions lie in power architecture, alarm functionality, and visual readout enhancements.
