Supported Applications

The Omega FLC Series Clear In-Line Variable Area Flow Meters are designed for direct in-line installation to measure the flow rate of liquids. The series is engineered specifically for monitoring municipal water flows, verifying pump outlets, and checking fluid conditions where visual inspection is beneficial.

  • Water (calibrated for specific gravity of 1.0)
  • Hydraulic oil
  • Liquids with particle sizes less than 74 micron (200 U.S. mesh minimum filtration required)

The meters operate on a piston design that allows installation in vertical, horizontal, or inverted orientations without flow straighteners.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Performance specifications are defined by the specific series variant (FLC-W for water, FLC-H for hydraulic oil). The series offers an accuracy of ±5% FS and repeatability of ±1% FS with a 10:1 turn down ratio across all ranges.

  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 325 PSIG (22.4 bar)
  • Burst Pressure: Three times the operating pressure
  • Operating Temperature – FLC-W Series: 93°C (200°F) maximum for water meters
  • Operating Temperature – FLC-H Series: 121°C (250°F) maximum for oil meters
  • Filtration Requirement: Minimum 74 micron filter or 200 mesh screen recommended upstream to prevent damage from contamination.

The flow measuring range spans from 1.9 to 114 LPM (0.5 to 30 GPM) depending on the specific model selected.

Configuration Options

The FLC Series is available in two primary configurations distinguished by media compatibility and material construction: FLC-W for water applications and FLC-H for hydraulic oil applications. Both series feature a transparent casing (Polycarbonate or Polysulfone) allowing visual reading of the flow indicator.

Process Connections

The meters are offered with NPT threaded connections in three sizes to reduce adapter requirements:

  • NPTF ½" (SAE #8)
  • NPTF ¾" (SAE #12)
  • NPTF 1" (SAE #16)

For units requiring BSPP threads, the "-BSP" suffix is added to the model number at no additional cost.

Materials of Construction

  • Casing: Polycarbonate (FLC-W water meters) or Polysulfone (FLC-H oil meters)
  • End Ports: Brass (water meters) or Polysulfone (oil meters)
  • Seals: Buna-N
  • Spring and Indicator: Stainless Steel spring; Polycarbonate or Polysulfone indicator depending on series.

Key Product Differences

The FLC Series is divided into two distinct model families based on the intended fluid media, which dictates the maximum operating temperature and wetted materials:

  • FLC-W Models (Water): Designed for water with a polycarbonate body. Maximum operating temperature is 93°C (200°F). End ports are brass.
  • FLC-H Models (Hydraulic Oil): Designed for hydraulic oil with a polysulfone body and end connections to withstand higher temperatures up to 121°C (250°F).

Within each family, models are differentiated by flow range and port size. For example, FLC-W11 covers 1.9 to 19 LPM (0.5 to 5 GPM) with a ½" NPT connection, while FLC-H16 covers 11 to 114 LPM (3 to 30 GPM) with a 1" NPT end connection.
