Supported Applications
The Omega PRTDCAP Series consists of Platinum RTD Capsules designed as ready-to-use sensors with insulated lead wires welded and anchored internally. These thin-film platinum elements are intended for embedding, insertion into process media, or integration into custom probe assemblies.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series utilizes a Thin Film Platinum Class A RTD element (a = 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C per IEC 60751). Accuracy is specified as Class A (±0.15+0.002*|t|°C, where |t| = absolute value of temperature in °C) between -50 and 300°C; models operate with Class B accuracy above and below these temperatures.
Operating ranges depend on the lead insulation material:
- -200 to 260°C (-320 to 500°F) for 26 AWG TFE leads
- -200 to 350°C (-320 to 660°F) for 26 AWG Polyimide leads
- -75 to 510°C (-100 to 950°F) for 26 AWG Fiberglass leads
- -50 to 200°C (-60 to 390°F) for Moisture Resistant models (rated with a 300 psi seal)
Response time (t63.2 for Water at 3'/Second) varies by diameter: 0.5 seconds for 0.080" Diameter, 0.6 seconds for 0.098" Diameter, and 0.8 seconds for 0.125" Diameter. Long-term stability is better than <0.04% after 1000hr at maximum operating temperature.
Electrical Specifications
The series supports recommended currents of 1mA for 100Ω elements and 0.3mA for 1000Ω elements. Maximum current should not exceed 2mA for 100Ω or 0.5mA for 1000Ω to avoid self-heating errors exceeding measurement accuracy requirements.
Configuration Options
The PRTDCAP series is configurable across resistance, dimensions, materials, and wire configurations:
- Sensing Element Resistance: 100 Ω or 1000 Ω options.
- Capsule Diameters: Available in 0.080", 0.098", and 0.125" diameters with insertion lengths of 0.5" to 0.6".
- Housing Materials: Alumina on 0.080" and 0.125" diameter capsules; Polyimide (rated for 350°C or 662°F) on 0.098" diameter capsules.
- Lead Wire Configurations: Insulated lead wires in 3- or 4-wire configurations with a standard length of 1 m (40").
- Wire Materials: Nickel Plated Copper conductors insulated with 26 AWG TFE, 26 AWG Kapton® polyimide, or 26 AWG Fiberglass.
- Special Options: Moisture Resistant models feature a 300 psi seal and are rated for -50 to 200°C (-60 to 390°F).
Note: 3- and 4-wire sensors can be modified by the customer for 2- and 3-wire applications by cutting off unneeded lead wires.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series are distinguished primarily by resistance value, capsule diameter/length combination, housing material (Alumina vs. Polyimide), and lead insulation type which dictates the maximum operating temperature. Model numbers follow the format PRTDCAP------. For example, models ending in "K" utilize polyimide leads for higher temperatures (up to 350°C), while those with "T" use TFE insulation limited to 260°C. Moisture-resistant versions are identified by the suffix "-M" and include a pressure seal.
