Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series SAE Butterfly Valves are designed for hydraulic shut-off and fluid control applications. The series is engineered to meet the needs of the fluid power industry, specifically providing bubble-tight reservoir shut-off. These valves utilize an O-ring flange face seal complying with S.A.E. J518 dimensional requirements to reduce leaks often associated with tapered thread and gasket type seals.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series SAE supports line sizes from 2" to 5". Pressure performance is rated at a body shell limit of 500 psi (34.5 bar) and a shut-off rating of 25 psi bubble tight (1.72 bar). The valves are compatible with liquids and gases.
Temperature limits depend on the O-ring seal material selected:
- Buna-N: 180°F (82°C)
- Fluoroelastomer: 300°F (149°C)
Configuration Options
The series is available in five standard flange sizes corresponding to specific model numbers:
- SAE-20: 2" S.A.E. Flange Size
- SAE-25: 2-1/2" S.A.E. Flange Size
- SAE-30: 3" S.A.E. Flange Size
- SAE-40: 4" S.A.E. Flange Size
- SAE-50: 5" S.A.E. Flange Size
The valves feature a compact envelope design to reduce space requirements and incorporate an open/close detent position lock that can be infinitely positioned to achieve a required flow rate. The unit is designed to resist vibrations associated with hydraulic pumps.

Key Product Differences
The primary variation across the series is the flange size, which dictates overall dimensions. Dimensional parameters A through L vary by model to accommodate 2" through 5" connections while maintaining a consistent I.D. X W.D. of 1/8 [3.18]. The standard configuration includes Buna-N seals; selecting the -VIT option changes the seal material and increases the maximum operating temperature limit from 180°F (82°C) to 300°F (149°C). Adding the -LHR suffix provides a locking handle for position retention.
