Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series VPS is a dual inductive, 2-wire AC/DC valve position sensor designed to maintain VDI/VDE 3845 dimensions. This standardization allows positioners to be easily mounted on top of the sensor and target assembly. The system comprises the Model VPS2411 Sensor and Model P1 Target, which mount directly to actuators featuring ISO NAMUR topworks.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series VPS operates within an ambient temperature range of -13°F to 176°F (-25°C to 80°C). Electrical performance is defined by a power supply requirement of 20-140 VAC (50/60 Hz) or 10-200 VDC, with an electrical rating of ≤200 mA and a minimum load current of 5 mA. The sensor exhibits a voltage drop of ≤5.0 V, leakage current of ≤0.8 mA, and a switching frequency of 25 Hz.

Performance specifications include a repeatability of ±0.01 mm (or 0.01 mm) and hysteresis ranging from 3 to 15% of the sensing range. The sensor output is configured as dual normally open switches.

Configuration Options

The series offers specific models for complete installation, including the VPS2411 valve position sensor and the P1 valve position target. Key configurable features include:

  • Housing Material: Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBTP) providing corrosion resistance and moisture protection.
  • Solid State Protection: Components are fully embedded in epoxy resin to prevent condensation build-up and protect against vibration and shock.
  • Electrical Connection: M12 x 1 THD, 4-pin quick disconnect. The Model VIP82 is the specified mating cable (6 ft long).
  • Mounting Options: Supports NAMUR mounting with hole patterns of 3.15" x 1.18" (80 x 30 mm) or 5.12" x 1.18" (130 x 30 mm).
  • Visual Indication: Features two independent LEDs and a bright Flow Line indicator for local visual status.

Key Product Differences

The Series VPS is supplied as distinct components: the Model VPS2411 serves as the valve position sensor, while the Model P1 functions as the adjustable target. The P1 Target allows for adjustment in 2° increments to align with specific actuator positions.

The electrical interface utilizes a quick disconnect system; users must order the separate Model VIP82 Quick Disconnect Cable (6 ft long) to complete the connection between the sensor and control equipment. The unit requires no routine maintenance or lubrication and is not repairable.
