Supported Applications
The Omega RAD/RADD Series consists of single and double fixed element radiant process heaters designed for industrial heating processes. Documented applications include finish curing, latex/resin curing, ink drying, textile/non-woven fabric processing, paper/paperboard operations, food processing, ceramic drying, shrink fitting, preheating glass, and fast-moving webs.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series features a ⅜" (9.525 mm) diameter Incoloy sheath with a maximum sheath temperature of 816°C (1500°F). Power ratings range from 0.40 to 13.0 kW, operating at supply voltages of 120, 208, 240, or 480V. The RAD series utilizes single fixed elements with a power density of 1.83 kW/Sq Ft, while the RADD series employs two fixed elements providing 3.66 kW/Sq Ft.
Overall lengths span from 24½" (62 cm) to 85½" (218 cm). Unit weights range from 4(2) lb (kg) for smaller models up to 18(8) lb (kg) for larger configurations. A caution note specifies that these radiant heaters must not be operated in the presence of flammable vapors, gases, or combustible materials without proper ventilation and/or other safety precautions compliant with National Fire Protection Bulletin 86A entitled “Ovens and Furnaces” or the authority having jurisdiction.
Configuration Options
The RAD/RADD series is configurable across multiple dimensions to meet specific process requirements:
- Housing & Elements: Available as single-element (RAD) or double-element (RADD) fixed configurations.
- Voltage Options: Models are offered for 120, 208, 240, and 480V systems. Specific model numbers indicate voltage compatibility (e.g., /120, /208).
- Lengths & Power Ratings: Standard lengths include 24½", 30½", 46½", 61½", 73½", and 85½". Corresponding power ratings vary by length and voltage, such as 0.80 kW for the 24½" model at 120V up to 3.60 kW for the 85½" single-element model.
- Electrical Connections: Power connections are made at each end unless single-end wiring is specified. To specify 18" leads at one end, add “-SE” to the model number (e.g., RAD2083B/120SE) for an additional cost.
- Accessories: Snap-in grille sections are available as optional accessories sold separately. These protect personnel or work from contact with hot elements. Replacement heater elements are also available.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction within the series is between the RAD and RADD model families based on element configuration:
- RAD Series (Single Element): Features one fixed heating element with a power density of 1.83 kW/Sq Ft.
- RADD Series (Double Element): Incorporates two fixed elements, doubling the power density to 3.66 kW/Sq Ft for equivalent surface areas.
Model numbering follows a structured guide: RAD/RADD - [Length] - [Voltage]. For example, model RAD7363B/480 denotes a 73½" single-element heater rated for 480V. Grille options are designated by separate model numbers (e.g., GR-2A through GR-6A) corresponding to specific heater lengths.
