Supported Applications

The Omega FL-3600 and FL-3800 Series are precision variable area flow meters designed for measuring the flow of air, water, and gases. The series supports applications involving nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, helium, argon, and carbon dioxide; correlation data for these specific gases is available by consulting Engineering.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FL-3600/FL-3800 Series delivers an accuracy of ±2% full scale (±5% FS on * models) with a repeatability of ±0.25% full scale. The meters operate at process temperatures up to 121°C (250°F) and withstand pressures up to 200 psig (13.8 bar). Flow ranges vary by tube size: the 65 mm flowtube covers Air from 5.77 cc/min to 58,500 cc/min and Water from 0.07 cc/min to 1866.0 cc/min; the 150 mm flowtube covers Air from 48.5 cc/min to 59,494 cc/min and Water from 0.53 cc/min to 1881.0 cc/min.

Key performance characteristics include:

• Scales: 65 or 150 mm arbitrary scale with 1 mm (⅜") increments
• Minimum Flow Rate: 10% of the maximum rate shown for each model
• New Flow Rates Effective Date: March 1, 2013

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across frame materials, float types, and valve options to meet specific installation needs. Models are available with aluminum or 316 SS frames.

• Frame Materials: Anodized aluminum (FL-36xx) or 316 Stainless Steel (FL-37xx/FL-39xx)
• Float Types: Glass ('G'), 316 SS ('ST'), Carboly ('C'), and Sapphire ('SA')
• Process Connections: ½ FNPT, horizontal
• Wetted Materials by Frame Type:
  • Anodized Aluminum Models: Borosilicate glass flow tube; Polyacetal valve orifice; Buna O-rings and packings.
  • 316 SS Models: Borosilicate glass flow tube; Kel-F valve orifice; FKM O-rings and packings.
• Special Options (Suffixes):
  • -HRV: 16-turn, high-resolution, non-rising stem valve (for 150 mm models)
  • -NV: No valve configuration
  • -NIST AIR / -NIST WATER: Optional NIST calibration
  • -02CLEAN: Oxygen cleaning service

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between two primary flow tube sizes and frame material families. The FL-36xx/FL-37xx models utilize 65 mm flow tubes, while the FL-38xx/FL-39xx models utilize 150 mm flow tubes.

• Frame Designation: Models beginning with '36' feature an aluminum frame; models beginning with '37', '38', or '39' feature a 316 SS frame. The second digit indicates the tube size (e.g., FL-36xx/FL-37xx are 65 mm; FL-38xx/FL-39xx are 150 mm).
• Float Material: Suffixes 'G', 'ST', 'C', and 'SA' denote glass, stainless steel, carboly, and sapphire floats respectively.
• Housing Dimensions (Center to Center): 131 mm (5.156") for the 65 mm size; 240 mm (9.469") for the 150 mm size.
• Valve Orifice Material: Polyacetal is used in aluminum models, while Kel-F is specified for 316 SS models.
