Supported Applications

The Omega UW Series Wireless Thermocouple/RTD Transmitter in NB9 Head provides complete, ready-to-install sensor and wireless transmitter packages for industrial temperature monitoring. These assemblies are designed to transmit measured process temperatures wirelessly back to a host receiver up to 120 m (400') away.

Applications include scenarios requiring remote data acquisition where wired connections are impractical. The system transmits the following parameters to compatible receivers, such as the UWTC-REC Series:

  • Sensor temperature
  • Head ambient temperature
  • RF signal strength
  • Battery condition

Note: Because of transmission frequency regulations, these products may only be used in the United States and Canada.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The UWTC-NB9 series integrates a wireless transmitter into an NB9 glass reinforced Nylon protection head. Power is supplied by a 3.6V lithium battery assembly (one included), with replacement batteries available as part number UWTC-BATT-C.

Transmission rates are programmable from every two seconds (30/min) to every 2 minutes. The series supports both thermocouple and RTD input types, offering flexibility for various industrial sensing requirements without the need for physical wired connections between the probe head and the host system.

Input Types

The following sensor inputs are available:

  • Thermocouples: Type J (Iron/Constantan), Type K (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®), Type E (CHROMEGA®/Constantan), Type T (Copper/Constantan), and Type N.
  • RTDs: Pt100 with temperature coefficients of Ω 0.00385 or Ω 0.00392.

Sheath Materials

Sensor sheaths are offered in Inconel®, 304 SS, and 316 SS to match process compatibility needs.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configuration options for probe dimensions, insertion lengths, and outer diameters (OD) to accommodate specific installation geometries. The model number structure follows the format: UWTC-NB9-[INPUT CODE]-[SHEATH CODE]-[PROBE LENGTH]-[OD] for thermocouples, and UWRTD-NB9-[INPUT CODE]-[SHEATH CODE]-[LENGTH] for RTDs.

Probe Dimensions

Overall Lengths: 152 mm (6"), 304 mm (12"), 457 mm (18"), and 610 mm (24"). Additional metric lengths are available in specific configurations.

Probe Outer Diameters

Diameter Options:

  • 116 (⅛")
  • 18 (⅛")
  • 316 (⁵/₁₆")
  • 14 (¼")

Note: The "U" suffix in model numbers indicates an ungrounded probe configuration.

Key Product Differences

The series is divided into two primary product families based on the sensor technology and ordering prefix:

  • Thermocouple Assemblies (UWTC-NB9): Designed for thermocouple inputs. These models include a suffix indicating probe grounding status, such as "-14U" or "-316U", where the letter denotes an ungrounded configuration.
  • RTD Assemblies (UWRTD-NB9): Designed for Resistance Temperature Detector inputs. These models are specified by input type codes like 1PT304, 2PT316, etc., and do not use the grounding suffix in the same manner as thermocouple variants.

Housing: All units feature a glass reinforced Nylon head (NB9) with an integral wireless transmitter. No physical electrical connector is required for data transmission; communication occurs via RF to compatible receivers like the UWTC-REC1 or other UWTC-REC Series devices.
