Supported Applications

The Omega TQ513 series consists of shaft-to-shaft rotary torque sensors designed to measure the performance of electric drive motors, small DC motors, clutches, and fans. These rotating torque sensors utilize a shaft-to-shaft in-line placement configuration for direct measurement.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TQ513 series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F), with compensated performance specified between 21 to 76°C (70 to 170°F). The sensors feature a maximum shaft speed of 5000 RPM and support excitation voltages up to 20 Vdc. Performance specifications include linearity of 0.10% FS, hysteresis of 0.10% FS, and zero balance of 1.0% FS. Thermal effects are rated at 0.0036% FS/°C for both zero and span.

Measurement capacities range from 50 in-oz to 2000 in-lb (equivalent to 0.35 to 226 N-M). The bridge resistance is 1000 Ω with a nominal output of 2.0 mV/V at full scale. Overload capacity is rated at 150% FS.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable capacities and optional features to accommodate specific testing requirements:

  • Capacities: Available in ranges from 50 in-oz (TQ513-003) through 2000 in-lb (TQ513-2K), with intermediate steps including 100, 200, 500, and 1000 in-oz, as well as 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 1500 in-lb.
  • Electrical Connections: Standard models utilize a 4-pin twist lock connector. Models with the optional encoder use a 10-pin twist lock connector (mating connectors supplied).
  • Housing Materials: Sensors rated ≤100 in-lb feature aluminum sensor housings; sensors rated ≥100 in-lb utilize steel sensor housings.
  • Shaft Materials: Capacities ≤100 in-lb use stainless steel (SS) shafts, while capacities ≥100 in-lb employ steel shafts. Shaft diameters vary by model: 3/8" for lower capacity units and 0.749" or 0.999" for higher capacity models.
  • Options: An integral 1024 ppr optical encoder is available (suffix -EN1024) to provide angle or speed measurement signals including CW LEAD and CW TRAIL outputs. A foot mounting bracket option is also offered (suffix -MB).

Key Product Differences

The TQ513 series distinguishes itself by capacity-dependent construction materials and shaft dimensions. Lower capacity models (TQ513-003 through TQ513-062) utilize 3/8" stainless steel shafts with flats for keying, housed in aluminum sensors. Higher capacity models (TQ513-100 through TQ513-2K) transition to larger diameters of 0.749" or 0.999", incorporate keyed connections (e.g., 3/16" or 1/4" keys), and are constructed with steel shafts and sensors.

Electrical output configurations vary based on the selected connector: standard models provide +EXC, -EXC, +SIG, -SIG signals via a 4-pin interface. The optional encoder configuration expands this to a 10-pin interface adding GND, +5V, CW LEAD, and CW TRAIL outputs.
