Supported Applications

The Omega SA1 series consists of self-adhesive polyimide fast response surface thermocouples designed for measuring surface temperature. These sensors feature a 'ribbon type' hot junction secured between high-temperature fiberglass cloth and electrically insulating polyimide film to provide good thermal conductivity, fast response, and excellent electrical insulation.

Applications include scenarios requiring easy installation and removal without epoxy or cement via the self-adhesive backing. The series is offered in IEC color-coded calibrations J, K, T, and E for surface temperature monitoring up to 175°C (350°F) long term.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The SA1 series supports a measurement range of -60° to 177°C (-75° to 350°F). The pad and adhesive material are rated for this temperature envelope. While the general rating extends to 177°C (350°F), long-term use with type "T" thermocouple wire is limited to 149°C [300°F].

Performance characteristics include a response time of better than 0.3 second. Accuracy meets or exceeds special limits of error (SLE) per EN 60584-2, Tolerance Class 1.

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across thermocouple types, wire lengths, and termination options to accommodate specific installation needs. The sensors are manufactured from 30 AWG PFA-coated thermocouple wire with a pad dimension of 19 x 25 x 0.3 mm (0.75 x 1.00 x 0.012").

Thermocouple Types and Wire Lengths

  • T/C Types: J, K, T, E.
  • Wire Gauge: 30 AWG (0.010" dia).
  • Insulation: PFA coated leads with IEC color coding.
  • Lengths Available: 1 m (40"), 2 m (80"), and 3 m (120").

Termination Options

  • Stripped Ends: Standard configuration for direct connection to a temperature measuring device.
  • SMP Male Connector: Available with molded strain relief (SA1-SRTC).
  • M8/M12 Connectors: Straight or right-angled male plugs available as options (-M8-S-M, -M12-S-M, -M8-R-M).
  • Spool Caddy: Miniature connector with spool caddy (SC) for convenient storage; note that 2 m (80") is the longest length available with this option.

Pad and Adhesive Materials

  • Upper Pad: Fiberglass Cloth.
  • Lower Pad: High Performance Polyimide Film.
  • Adhesive Backing: Silicone Polymer designed for easy removal, though not intended for repetitive reapplication.

Key Product Differences

The SA1 series distinguishes variants by thermocouple calibration (J, K, T, E), wire length suffixes (-1M, -2M, -3M), and termination codes. Models with the "-SC" suffix include a miniature connector and spool caddy, while models ending in "-SRTC" feature molded strain relief with an SMP male connector.

Additional cost options allow for M8 or M12 plug configurations added to the model number (e.g., -M8-S-M). The series includes both standard stripped-end versions and those pre-configured with connectors. A specific variant, SA1XL-EI-3M, is listed within the enabled variants.

Users must specify JI, KI, TI, or EI thermocouple types when ordering. Electrical connection requires connecting the red wire to the positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal of a measuring device for stripped-end versions.
