Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series PE and TE Orifice Plate Flowmeters are complete flow metering packages designed for differential pressure-based measurement in gas and liquid applications. The series is engineered to function as a true primary element, incorporating the orifice plate, carrier ring with metering taps, and integral gaskets into a single unit.

Documented application areas include:

  • Clean air and compatible gases (Series PE)
  • Liquids, corrosive fluids, and high-temperature fluids (Series TE)
  • Fluid flow in building water lines
  • Boiler feedwater systems
  • Cooling water circuits
  • Combustion or compressed air monitoring
  • Steam flow measurement

The units are designed for use wherever a conventional flow orifice plate is required and can replace other primary differential producers. For compatible gases, the series supports reading of differential pressure using Dwyer Magnehelic® gages.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Performance specifications vary by material construction to accommodate different process environments:

  • Series PE (PVC): Process temperature up to 140°F max (60°C max). Pressure rating is limited only by pipe and flange restrictions, with a specific maximum of 150 psi noted for the PVC construction.
  • Series TE (PTFE): Process temperature range from -40 to 200°F (-40 to 93.3°C). Pressure rating is limited only by pipe and flange restrictions, with a specific maximum of 150 psi max (10 bar) noted for the PTFE construction.

Accuracy assigned to coefficient values depends on the Beta ratio (orifice bore/pipeline I.D. or d/D):

  • ±0.6% full scale flow for Beta = 0.2 to 0.6
  • ±0.7% full scale flow for Beta greater than 0.6 up to 0.75

The series utilizes corner tap proportions as defined in ISO 5167 and meets or exceeds ASME, AGA & ISO standards. A critical operating constraint is that differential pressure values should be less than 50% of the inlet absolute pressure.

Capacity Ranges

The series supports line sizes from 1/2" to 24" with Beta ratios ranging from 0.2 to 0.75 (based on standard schedule pipe I.D.). Documented capacity envelopes include:

  • Water Capacity: 0.62 GPM to 8,007.74 GPM
  • Air Capacity: 2.32 SCFM to 66,737.64 SCFM (Series PE/TE data sheet)

Note: Specific capacity charts in the source documentation list higher maximums for certain configurations; selection should reference the specific model chart based on line size and Beta value.

Configuration Options

The Series PE-TE encompasses two distinct material families, each offering a monolithic (single piece) construction with integral gaskets:

  • Series PE Construction: Monolithic gray PVC body with Buna-N gaskets. Designed for clean air and compatible gases.
  • Series TE Construction: Monolithic PTFE body with Buna-N gaskets. Suitable for corrosives, high-temperature fluids, liquids, and gases.

The units feature a unique holder or carrier ring containing metering taps. Installation is performed by slipping the unit between standard flanges (125#/150# rating); dedicated orifice flanges are not required. The overall thickness of the assembly is 1.25" for both series, with an orifice plate thickness of 0.125" for Series PE and 0.250" for Series TE.

Model numbering follows a structured guide: Series-Size Code-Tap Position. Examples include PE-A-1 (Series PE) and TE-B-3 (Series TE). The series offers various bore sizes corresponding to Beta ratios from 0.2 to 0.75.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two families in this bundle is the wetted material, which dictates media compatibility and temperature limits:

  • Series PE (PVC): Restricted to clean air and compatible gases with a maximum process temperature of 140°F. The housing material is gray PVC.
  • Series TE (PTFE): Expanded compatibility for corrosives, high-temperature fluids, liquids, and gases. Operates from -40 to 200°F (-40 to 93.3°C). The wetted material is PTFE with Buna-N gaskets.

Both series share the same dimensional envelope (1/2" to 24" line sizes), flange mounting style, and accuracy specifications based on Beta ratio. Both utilize corner tap proportions per ISO 5167. The Series PE is specifically noted for use with Dwyer Magnehelic® gages for differential pressure reading in gas applications.
