Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series PFT is an insertion paddlewheel flow sensor designed to monitor liquid flow rates in pipes ranging from 1-1/2 to 40˝ (38.1 to 1016 mm). The series utilizes a single size-adjustable sensor with inductive, non-magnetic sensing of impeller blades, enabling low-flow rate monitoring and eliminating concerns regarding magnetic material in the process media. Documented service is specified for water-based fluids.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series PFT operates within a flow velocity range of 1.2 to 25 ft/s (0.37 to 7.62 m/s). Process temperature limits are -40 to 212°F (-40 to 100°C), with pressure ratings of 400 psig (27.6 bar) @ 100°F (37.8°C) and 325 psig (22.4 bar) @ 212°F (100°C). Performance specifications include linearity of ±1.0% of full range and repeatability of ±0.5% of full range.
Installation requirements specify mounting the sensor at an angle between 30° to 150° off vertical on horizontal runs, with a straight run of at least 10 pipe diameters upstream and 5 pipe diameters downstream. The impeller shaft must be located 10% inside the pipe ID.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options across mounting styles, body materials, output signals, wetted parts, and electrical connections to accommodate specific installation needs.
- Housing & Body Materials: Brass or 316 SS. Enclosure rating is NEMA 6P (IP67); brass units are IP67 only.
- Mounting Styles: Insertion and hot-tap insertion styles are available. Process connections include standard 1-1/2˝ male NPT or BSPT, with optional 2˝ male NPT or BSPT. Isolation valve options are selectable for the 1-1/2˝ connection.
- Output Signals:
- Pulse: NPN open collector square wave output rated 60 V @ 50 mA maximum; frequency range 3.2 to 200 Hz with a pulse width of 2.5 msec ±25%.
- Analog: 4-20 mA linear transmitter where 4 mA equals 0 ft/s and 20 mA equals 25 ft/s.
- Two-wire pulse option available (600 μA / 40 mA configuration).
- Wetted Materials: Impeller is 316 SS. Shaft options include Tungsten carbide standard or 316 SS optional. Bearings are PTFE standard.
- O-Ring Options: FKM fluoroelastomer (standard), Silicone (FDA approved), or Buna-N.
- Electrical Connection: Standard cable is 22 AWG shielded UL type PTLC rated 105°C, 20´ (6.1 m) long with a cable gland; extendable up to 2000´ (609 m). An optional UL listed burial-rated cable (18 GA, 4 ft / 1.2 m) is available.
- Approvals: CE certified per CENELEC EN 55011: 2006, CENELEC EN 61326-1: 2006, IEC 61000-4 series standards (2 through 6), and the 2004/108/EC EMC Directive.
Key Product Differences
The Series PFT model number structure defines specific configurations. The style code distinguishes between Insertion ('I') and Hot-tap insertion ('H'). Output codes differentiate the 600UA/40 MA pulse output ('D') from the Analog 4-20 mA transmitter ('A'). Body material is designated as Brass ('B') or 316 SST ('S'). Mounting options range from standard NPT and BSPT threads to hot-tap configurations with or without valves. Wetted material codes specify either a Tungsten-carbide shaft/316 SS impeller combination (code '1') or an all-316 SS shaft and impeller configuration (code '2'). Electrical connection options include the standard shielded wire ('S') or burial-rated cable ('B'). A stainless steel tag option is available as a suffix.
