Supported Applications
The Omega FMA-A2000 Series comprises electronic mass flow meters and controllers designed for clean gases. Utilizing capillary-type thermal technology, the series directly measures gas mass flow without requiring temperature, pressure, or square root corrections. The product overview identifies these units as suitable for OEM, laboratory, and process control applications.
Omega calibrates FMA Series instruments to NIST standards for a specific gas and range selected by the customer; K Factors can be used to measure other gases. Engineering units may be displayed in mass units such as Gr/s, LB/H, or Kg/H, or in volumetric units referenced to standard pressure and temperature (e.g., SCCM, SLPM, SCFH). Standard reference conditions are 70°F and 29.92" Hg or 21°C and 760 Torr.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F). A warning note specifies a maximum operating temperature of 150 F. Maximum gas pressure ratings are defined by the body material: Polyacetal models support up to 250 psig, while 316 Stainless Steel models support up to 500 psig.
Performance specifications include an accuracy of ±1% of full scale including linearity and a repeatability of ±0.15% full scale or better. The response time is documented as 5 seconds in the series data sheet, while the family manual notes a range of 1-2 second.
Media compatibility covers most non-corrosive gases; users are advised to check wetted materials against specific gas requirements. Capillary mass meters are susceptible to clogging from entrained particulate, and upstream filtration (50 - 100 micron) is recommended if the line or gas contains such contaminants.
Configuration Options
The FMA-A2000 Series offers configurable options across measurement ranges, body materials, display presence, and control functionality. The series supports a wide envelope of flow rates:
- SCCM Ranges: 0 to 10 SCCM through 0 to 500 SCCM.
- SLM Ranges: 0 to 1 SLM through 0 to 75* SLM and up to 0 to 100* SLM (FMA-A2100/2300 Series only).
Housing materials are available in Polyacetal or 316 Stainless Steel. Wetted materials include Plastic Model (POM), 316 SS, and 17-4SS for flow bodies. Elastomers are standard FKM with optional Buna, Perfluoroelastomer, or EPDM.
Electrical interfaces utilize a 9-pin sub-D connector. Output signals are available as Linear 0 to 5 Vdc or 4 to 20 mA (with minimum load resistance of 1000 Ω and loop resistance of 500 Ω). Power supply is included, supporting standard 24 Vdc @ 150 mA; optional configurations support 12/15 VDC / 115 or 220 VAC with an AC adapter. A replacement socket plug-in power supply (FMA-200PWA) for 90 to 260 Vac is available as an accessory.
Process connections include a standard ¼" FNPT; stainless steel models feature a ¼" compression fitting. Accessories such as the SSLK-14-14 (316 SS compression fitting ¼ NPT for ¼" OD tube) are offered.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between meters and controllers, with or without integral displays:
- FMA-A21 Series: Mass flow meter without display. Ranges from 0 to 10 SCCM to 0 to 100 SLM.
- FMA-A23 Series: Mass flow meter with integral LCD display. Ranges from 0 to 10 SCCM to 0 to 100 SLM.
- FMA-A22 Series (-SS): Mass flow controller without display, featuring an electromagnetic proportional control valve (normally closed). Available in 316 SS body. Ranges from 0 to 10 SCCM to 0 to 50 SLM.
- FMA-A24 Series (-SS): Mass flow controller with integral display and control valve. Available in 316 SS body. Ranges from 0 to 10 SCCM to 0 to 50 SLM.
All controller flow ranges specified are for nitrogen or air at 20 psig; a correlation factor is required when used with other gases. For optional 316 stainless steel bodies, the suffix "-SS" is added to the model number (standard on FMA-A22 and FMA-A24 controllers). A 10-point NIST calibration certificate is available by adding the suffix "-NIST10".
